The Great Minimal Synth Swindle

Postby eight6 » Fri Apr 04, 2008 4:14 am

I see my friend erucsbo is again misrepresenting stuff on eBay. A while back I bought an ep from him that was quite obviously groove damaged. When I contacted him about it, he basically told me I was full of shit, and offered me a token refund of half my money back, less shipping and handling. I also had to send the record back. I didn't bother: it wasn't a lot of money ($40.00 IIRC) it was the principle.

This guy seems to prey on a more than willing Minimal Synth crowd, and I must admit to buying a couple of items from him, but his dismissive nature when I asked him for a refund for a defective item ended my dealings with him.

Here's a current auction he's offering:

http://cgi.ebay.com/kbd-minimal-synth-d ... dZViewItem

I have a couple of copies of this, no way is it a KBD/minimal synth collection, rather a hodge podge of musical styles.

Here is the song by the Expelaires he describes as "(GREAT MINIMAL SYNTH)"

http://www.zshare.net/audio/10051420ad0d8df2/

Definitely not minimal synth...fanciz needs to have a sitdown with this guy.

most of those artists sound nothing like "minimal synth", which if you want a sort of general description is not unlike Kraftwerk
ie:
-Nightmares On Wax? Bauhaus sounding
-Wah? big horns
etc...

I know what you mean. I bought a couple of music related DVDs from some degenerate on eBay who totally misrepresented what was essentially DVD-R merchandise. When I contacted the spineless turd he knew better, gave me a full refund and asked me to keep the discs. Just another example of the dark side of the internet: you never know who you're dealing with. I was lucky. Too bad you weren't luckier.

He does sell minimal synth vinyl, but he routinely dresses up non-minimal synth stuff as such. I think he counts on people buying based on his say so.

I think he's made his name scouring the music shops in the SoCal area. he does offer some rare items, but almost always at over the top prices.

This guy makes the perfect statement about the genre:

As I said on the other board, I have 3 copies of this. Make me an offer. I also have the "Side Of Horseraddish" Ep as well.

That's what you get for buying unheard off the strength of her Disco lp.

I'm going to raid the "soul" section of every record store in town.

Yes, as a matter of fact...

Joe Jama - My Life

http://www.zshare.net/audio/100676249665eaeb/

I'm so disillusioned with Northern Soul. Turns out Joe Jama is Mexican (Chicano) and lives in San Antonio Texas. Nothing "Northern" there.

I kinda like that song. It's a lot better than I thought it would be.

I've been listening to it too. I was genuinely surprised. There are better copies on Youtube.
