Wow. I'm really surprised how much I like it. It's a bit edgier and clubbier than their other stuff. Oddly, the only grating thing for me is Fred's vocals. I much prefer the girls'. His don't seem as well matched to the newer style - a little too hystrionic or dated...I don't know. Thanks though BMG.

"Juliet Of The Spirits" stands out.

Agreed that Fred Schneider's voice is a distracting irritant rather than a highlight. Walking the line between campy and cool is a difficult challenge that Fred and The B-52s have done so often I have come to expect it.

But that spirited nuance is missing in Schneider's voice here. Too bad. "Deviant Ingredient" sounds great until Fred chimes in. Almost sounds as if he is reading off a cue card at times.

"Keep This Party Going" has a catchy guitar riff.

That's exactly how I feel about it. I've always gotten the most enjoyment out of the songs that really feature the girls (esp. Kate) with Fred in the background. On this album, his voice just bugs me.

However, I do like it and several of the songs are really enjoyable (despite Fred!). I'm all kinds of happy that they are even putting out a new album! [:D]

Thanks for sharing this birdmadgirl. Not bad , not bad at all. The song "Juliet of the Spirits" I would have to say was my favorite track.

I'm with you guys. I can only take Fred in small doses even at his best ... and this isn't it. It's good to see them back though and I think "Funplex" (is this the single? It's the one they've been playing on my local station) is better than the majority of their late 80's, early 90's material.

It does sound like they are trying to get back to their roots a bit. Yup, I agree with the others - less Fred would be nice.

I am not so sure about Cindy's look. I think she's bit old to be trying to look like she's 22. I don't think long hair looks good on women over 50...especially so if they bleach it like that.

Hair that light (and that straight) really ages women. Plus, hair that light is so hard to maintain, and it really ruins it (take it from someone whose blonde hair keeps getting darker and darker and who refuses to go along with it. I have to admit, though, that I'll be one of those ladies who refuses to give up the hair dye and my long hair.)

I don't think Cindy looks bad. She's what? Almost 60? I think she looks really good for her age. And Kate... Kate looks goooood in the "Funplex" video. I love me some red-headed wimminfolk.... [:D]

Saw them perform last week? Or weekbefore on Jay Leno Show, they sounded and looked really good for old New Wavers!

Performed "Funplex" I'm guessing from the lyrics they sang, and it was The B-52's "sound."

Was looking at Wikipedia's B'52's listing, and they are saying that it is official: The B-52's can now be spelled The B-52s, as it seems the band has finally dropped off the appostrophie... [:)]

Great to see them putting out new material that is true to their original trademark sound while infusing it with some fresh elements of electronica. IMHO it's somewhat reminiscent of what Madonna did on her release 'Music'. Very clubby sounding indeed!
