Best re-mastered editions

With all the recent postings regarding the Thompson Twins Deluxe Editions on the reissues page, I was wondering if people out there have opinions on their favourite 're-mastered' editions of New wave stuff. Whether it be sound quality, packaging or just pleased to have their old records on CD.
To start with the recent first 3 Heaven 17 albums sound great to me both in the old Honda Civic or on the decent system at home. Is it because they were well remastered or was it down to the great original production. I have heard that even Martyn Ware is impressed with the sound.
The packaging on Japan's 'Tin Drum' although taking up the shelf space of about 3 CDs and could have easily have fitted onto one, give the album the presence it deserves alongside cohesive photos and good sound.

My vote is for The Cure 'Deluxe Editions' just on sheer volume of material. I really don't know about sound quality (it sounds great to me), and packaging isn't anything crazy. It's just a great wealth of stuff.

<p align="justify">The fucked up thing about those Japan remasters is that I had just finished buying all of Japan's reissued cd albums when those came out. I have the Japanese import singles collection, so I'm still holding out on re-purchasing those remasters since I probably have most of those extra tracks (except for maybe the extra tracks from the first two albums). I'm thinking of getting all those DeMode remastered albums up to [i]Violator[/i][}:)]

The re-issues of the first 3 Ultravox albums are stupendous. I can't find a single flaw with the music, and the packaging is well done, with enough liner notes to make it interesting, but not so inundating that you get overwhelmed.

The latest Joy Division re-issues are good, but I've got them all on other formats to begin with, I couldn't justify paying a 3rd or in some cases a 4th time for the same music.

I've said it here many times before, but those DM remasters (EU SACD version, of course) are worth it just for the DVD documentaries (at least up to, and including, Black Celebration. Masses wasn't too bad; Violator was Corbijn, Corbijn, and more Corbijn).

Here are a few that I've really been digging lately:

Squeeze: "ArgyBargy" and "Sweets From A Stranger". These 2008 import reissues have nice packeging, with good liner notes and lots of photos of old Squeeze singles.

Elvis Costello: "My Aim Is True" and "This Year's Model". Even though I was cynical about another Costello reissue series, the bonus live discs are excellent shows that make you feel like you were right there with audience.

Finally, I have to give a kudos to Oglio records, who were one of the first really good new wave reissues companies. They put out a bunch of stuff in the early-mid 90's that you could tell was assembled by true fans.

Having enjoyed the 5.1 surround on both Depeche Mode Cds I didn't already have (Music for the Masses & Black Celebration, my favourite 2), is it worth buying the others as I would love to hear my other top 2 'Construction Time Again' & 'Speak & Spell' bouncing around all the speakers in the living room. Does anyone rate the surround mix on them CDs?

ps. Nice trick on the Japan remasters to get you to buy all of them to complete their name on the spines. Still missing 'Assemblage' as already have digital copies of tracks on another disc, the name will have to remain Japa on my shelf! Does anyone else have the Japanese (I think) double CD singles collection as I can't seem to find it on any websites, is it rare?

Boris Blank (of Yello) remastered 6 of the first releases from Yello with bonus tracks and added info (pics, press releases etc.)

Excellent work on all of them.

<p align="justify">I bought the Japan singles collection back in 2001 from tower.com. It pops up often in Amazon. It is definitely worth 30 bucks (at least it was worth it back then). I also have [i]Assemblage[/i] already. It was my first Japan album on cd (imported from... Japan!).
