While I see where WolverineSyr is coming from, and I agree that people deserve to have a remedy for this, at the same time, those commercials bug me too, because it makes it seem that it's OK to have herpes, that it's all good, no worries, and spouses/partners can be incredibly forgiving when told this news. That kills me.

Every time we see one of those Valtrex ads on TV Mr. Hex and I turn to each other and recite the "When Harry Met Sally" smug married line, "Tell me I'll never have to be out there again." (And then we discuss the noise made by Paris Hilton's cooch in the "Stupid Spoiled Whore" epiosode of South Park).
Lots and lots of people our age have this--some stats say 25% in general and 50% in some demographic groups. I know it doesn't make them bad people--I'm sure many of them were less sluttier than I was back in the day--but I can't imagine having to deal with new partners.
One of the writers at jezebel.com did a column about why she doesn't tell partners (among other things, she repeatedly discusses at on her site and so she assumes everyone knows . . . so now in addition to condoms you must google a new partner[?]). The reader comments were as outraged as you'd expect.
