"Can't Give It Away" is the B-side of the "Crossfire" / "Watching the Sharks" single (released October, 1983). Not that I'm telling Craig anything he doesn't already know...

Looking at the record, I'm guessing "Can't Give It Away" was the last thing (or one of the last) Tom Reid and Jeff Lyons did before being given the heave ho. They're credited as guest musicians. "Crossfire" and "Watching the Sharks" were recorded when the band was a trio -- with Will filling in on bass before Jeff Baust was brought in. Correct?

You're assuming I have a modicum of memory brain cells left! I don't remember Jeff or Tom playing on any of those songs, but if they're listed as guest musicians they must have done something.

I'll ask Jamie - he remembers everything - and will let you know what he says.

Okay, I just heard from Jamie and it was Tom Reid playing bass and Jeff Lyons on synthesizer and harmony vocals. Man, I have zero recollection of that!

Hey, at least you remembered that it was a flute at the beginning. I thought it was a violin. (laughs) All the credits are on the back of the picture sleeve, so it's not like I had a good memory or anything. I just read off it.

Does Jamie still use the verizon email address? Will gave that one to me. Tried to send an email. It bounced four times. Jamie registered here because of a post I wrote, so that's why I was hoping to talk to him.

I'm wary about posting his email address here because spammers use webcrawlers to search out email addresses on message boards. I'm going to forward this thread to him and I'm sure he'll get back to you as soon as he reads my email.

By the way, I just looked at the back of the record sleeve and you're right, the credits are listed! Man, too many drugs in the '80s, I guess!!

I checked out a number of the videos that you posted - very nice stuff!

You mentioned Jeff Lyons below and it rang a bell. Were you guys in LA? I remember a Jeff Lyons that had a very long, angular face with a strong jaw. In those days in 81-85 I remember him having a 50's kind of hair cut. Funny thing is I can't remember why I knew him; his face and name are just in there. Could we be speaking of the same person?

I'm glad you like the videos.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of a different Jeff Lyons. He was definitely in Boston until at least 1983 or 1984. After the first Bees broke up I pretty much lost track of Jeff, but I heard he moved to Chicago and did some acting there. In the videos, Jeff is the guy with the curly hair singing "Tell me TV" and "Bag Ladies" in the "5 All Night Live" videos.

Thanks for posting these on YouTube. I remember seeing the Bees
open up for David Johansen in Worcester. Not sure of the year.

Funny you mention the Johansen show--I was there--Buddy of mine won tickets from some radio station for the show and we headed up there. Not a bad show from what I remember. It was the first time I had seen the Bees.

Any local folk knows about Lukes Record Exchange--store closing it's doors this Sunday--although WILL reopen in fall as Luke told me today. Anyways... scored the Bees single You're Not Talking To Me!!! Said he just put it on the shelf yesterday!!!

I used to find copies of "Talking" every other month or so back in the late '80s in BoTown. Not sure about how easy it is to find nowadays. I've hoarded some damn many of it, quite frankly, I'm pretty sure I don't need any more! Jamie Shaler told me in email that he's got hundreds of the other two singles just collecting dust.

And this Luke's Record Exchange, is that the place you mentioned turned up a crate of old store stock copies of the Big Bubble "City History" double-LP? Any chance they have any more of them? A buddy of mine is looking for it for the Rash of Stabbings track. I'm sure he'd be willing to make a drive out to Rhode Island if they do.
