NBA Finals - 80's flashback?

Postby brock » Thu Jun 05, 2008 7:17 am

Every year of the 80's had either the Lakers or Celtics in the finals. Now I'm not nearly the hoops fan that I once was, but I'm getting a little pensive here.
BTW - I've always hated the Lakers. Still do.

I grew up a Laker fan...my wife still uses her "Fly High With Bird" license plate holder. It's going to be very ugly in the Blirbis household. We haven't even healed the wounds from the Rams/Pats debacle and now this.

I can't wait!

One of the NBA's best offensive teams vs. what is probably the best defensive team.

One thing I will miss: Chick Hearn- old "Golden Throat", doing the play by play.

Two things I will NOT miss: The abrasively raspy voice of Johnny Most and the arrogance of Red Smugfuck Auerbach.

Lakers in six.

It will probably be Lakers in 6...unless, of course, Kobe demands a trade during the middle of the finals.

Interesting that the NBA is raising the age for eligibility into the league now. Great timing with Kobe vs Garnett in the playoffs. Add Lebron, Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard, Jermaine O'Neill, Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler and you have a tough argument to make if you're David Stern

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

[/quote]Yes, Chick was the best. Some of my fav Chick-isms:

lots of referees in the building, only three getting paid
My grandmother could guard him, and she can't go to her left!
He has two chances, slim and none, and slim just left the building

[:D]

"The mustard's off the hot dog!" (my all-time favorite)

"You could have that with Braille!"

"He did the bunny hop in the pea patch."

"He put him in the popcorn machine!"

"The game's in the refrigerator - the lights are out, the door is closed, the eggs are cooling, the butter's gettin' hard, and the Jello's jigglin'."

Man I miss Chick.

I think it was "You could CALL that with Braille!"

also:

"He couldn't throw a pea in the ocean!"

"Marge (Chick's wife) could have made THAT one!"

"Coach is working the Wrigley's." (chewing nervously)

"He puts the baby to bed."- referring to how James Worthy would cradle the ball into the basket.

"SLAAAAAM DUNK!"

BTW, very divided household here, lots of bitterness, hard feelings, and recriminations ("mercenaries - they're the new Yankees", "best team money can buy", "your eurotrash couldn't cut it", "just hope Pierce doesn't get stabbed partying", and most simply, "Koby sucks!"). Ugy, very very ugly.
