Interesting story. Kind of cool that music became a vehicle of communication.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

So did I! I was thinkin', "Divorce? It's coming together now with this 'coming out mixtape.' It's probably just a phase birmadgirl's going through"[}:)]

Hahahhaha!

Nope, no coming out tape for me.

Yet.

But, I am going to put together a Horny New Wave playlist and a Coming Out playlist* today. And who knows that that combo will lead to ... [}:)]

*Gotta be prepared! Plus, one of my best friends says she's convinced I'm a gay man trapped in a woman's body. Now you all know![:D]

About the article, I was really happy to see someone else talk about how this particular genre of music spoke to her so personally. New Wave gets hammered all the time for being sort of silly, and it's nice to read about other people "surviving" because of it. In my case, it was a matter of matching up some quirky music with a quirky girl, music made by people who did not fit the mainstream. It spoke volumes to me then, and still does now, as someone who is still very quirky and does not fit the mold that has been cast for her.

Music/art in general captures a lot of human emotions. Hearing something and then thinking, "Man, I know exactly how that feels" demonstrates how we're all not that different from each other and that our pain, joy, anger, happiness, sadness are more common than we imagined. I just happen to like the sound of 80s music more than any other kind. I wish I had been more artistically-inclined to make art rather than exclusively consume it, though[}:)]

That's actually a pretty good article, stuff that makes a lot of sense, mirroring some cool-ass music.
