In high school, I didn't have to recite that part, so I didn't[}:)] In a way, it's a matter of choosing my battles. I'm not gonna get bent outta shape over it until Christian mythology is taught as fact (e.g., garbage like "creationism"). They wanna pray? Let 'em pray. It's funny how those two cunts were yapping about atheists "not shutting up," when all the whining I heard while in high school and university came from Christians, Jews, and Muslims (pretty much anyone associated with the religion of abraham). They really wouldn't shut the fuck up about their God and praying to their God.

Has anyone else noticed that, when someone questions or knocks their conservative ideals, a conservative talking head's first response is usually "Shut up and stop whining!"?

Good grief. Atheists are "not strong" ? Since when does strength have anything to do with your religious beliefs, or lack thereof ?

Religion does not belong in schools. If someone wants religion in a school, then they should send their kid to a parochial school ! Duh !

You're bordering on a Republicanesque straw man argument there KYYX. I think even the dimmest rightist proponent wouldn't couch it as "religion" but rather as freedom of expression surrounding "god" or "prayer" - a couple of Amendments being foiled against eachother.

To the subject, it just seems like a lame discussion without actually having an atheist there to represent.

I don't believe in atheists.

God I have my doubts about but I don't think anyone is smart enough or has gathered enough evidence to be able to completely rule the possibility of a higher power out.

a "straw man" argument was not my intent, at any rate. My apologies for what may look like an attempt to frame it as such. I just was adding that I don't understand why some Christians, who may be upset that their child's school doesn't have prayer or whatever, try to challenge the law against such separation of school vs. church. Instead of trying to change it to suit them, why don't they just send their child to a school that better suits their desires ? I don't mean to argue whatever point those CNN folks up above were discussing. It was just my .02c.

Ah, got it, sorry. I should have said that folks are baring the sharp edge of both sides of the [i]same[/i] Amendment for their arguments - no law respecting a religion nor prohibiting its free exercise or abridging the freedom of speech. I just meant to say that 'religion' is one thing, and for the purposes of argument or discussion, most will tell you that 'god' and 'prayer' are another, thus the potential for 'straw man' if you're implying that folks are arguing for 'religion' in schools. They're usually being more clever than that by usually sticking to 'god' and 'prayer' in these discussions.

Oh, AND they'd argue that they shouldn't have to go to their own schools to practice the rights spelled out in the Constitution.
