Bratmobile is another band from the 90's that comes to mind. Most people I know hear 5 seconds of a bratmobile song and say WTF, how can you listen to that sloppy amateurish crap?!?

Back in the day it took dating girls who were big fans of Echo & The Bunnymen and The Cure to get me to like them.

3. The Smiths- I know it's almost sacrireligious to include the Smiths in this thread, however there seems to be no middle ground with this group, either people really love them or really hate them. Most people who learned to appreciate them had to do so over time.

Flesh for Lulu is WONDERFUL.....

Gang Of Four is an interesting choice. I fell in love with their music from the onset and they remain one of my favorite bands. I'm surprised to hear that people consider them an acquired taste. Does everyone feel that way?

I'm with you club80. The first time I heard them I was hooked too. But my friends didn't feel the same. I was very disappointed. I thought they had better taste than that. So I dumped the lot of them. [:0]

I saw them live four times. Excluding the last time which was in 1991 and they weren't all that passionate, they put on three of the best shows I ever saw. Did you ever get a chance to see them live, wherewereuin82?

No I didn't really dump them. I only had the chance to see them once. In '83 at The Concert Hall in Toronto. One of the best live bands. IMO.
