Wait... the Mets are building a new stadium too? Any reason for this? Honestly, this is ridiculous. There is no real reason to build a new Yankee Stadium, either, and demolish the old one. I'm supposed to love everyone and hate no one, but Steinbrenner really tests me on that.

After numerous failed attempts by the Mayor and other related concerns to build stadiums on the west side of Manhattan, in Brooklyn and in Queens Flushing Meadow, the Mets finally agreed to build it right next to the existing stadium.. sound familiar?

Anywho, LI pop music Emeritus Billy Joel is playing his second and final 'Last Play at Shea' send off concert tonight.
Incidentally, he's also <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117989004.html?categoryid=13&cs=1" target="blank">filming a documentary</a> to chronicle his last two gigs here.

Funny how this kind of news stays local.[:D]

Yes, a new home is being built for The Mets but I don't think it's unnecessary. It was built in 1964. There are 29 other teams in Major League Baseball. Only the Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers are in older stadiums. There are some structural concerns about the stadium. There are no immediate issues but costly upgrades were necessary soon. When the cost of renovation were weighed against the cost of a new stadium, it just seemed prudent to build the new home.

I'll miss the old place tremendously. I have seen over 300 games there including 1986 World Series Game 6 (the "Buckner" game) but it was time.

(actually I just did (couple months ago) some incredibly good Billy Joel Tee designs...(none got picked)....for his last gig at Shea the other night....I like billy...

that being said just did a bunch of POISON tees (really) so fucking lame...

but I digress

here is a photo I took on vacation in New Brunswick. (1994)
Liz Phair wanted to have the first turn with me at Twister®
but of course I went with Wynonna with the larger tits.

and with the failure that is this season for The Padres, I'd have nothing to talk about anyway.

No sweat. I live in a two team baseball town. Do you think I usually get the upper hand even in my own area? Not very often.

The most popular chant here for most of my life has been

I dont know if you listen to Howard Stern, thats my only connection with the NYC area...but boy is there some contention between the Yankee Fans and the Mets fans on that show--- it's really exotic for me to hear people carrying on about sports teams like that --- because barely anybody in So Cal seems to care (including myself) about sports.
