Big fan here. I love their angular choppy guitar sound. But I know several people, my husband included, who just can't get into their sound. My husband thinks they're just toneless "noise". Ha ha ! Fortunately, I won't be dumping him. He doesn't mind when I play Go4 at all.

Gang of Four totally kicked ass tonight. They were really tight, the sound was incredible. I've never seen them before, so I don't know if things like the lead singer beating a box with a baseball bat as percussion are normal, but it was very cool. I'm not familiar enough with their catalog to know the titles of the songs they played, but it was a very strong set. I'm really glad I saw them. They were part of the Download Festival, which I'll try to post a review of in the Next Wave section, as GOF and Jesus and Mary Chain were the only older bands on the docket tonight.
The Download Festival is in Los Angeles on Sunday night, so if you're down there, you might be able to see them.

Thanks Don! Sounds like typical Gang of Four from their heyday. They were always very tight and, yes, Jon King loved to add alternative percussion ideas to the performance (take a look at this performance of He'd Send In The Army from Urgh! A Music War).
Couldn't agree more, rotator. Is It Love? was not nearly among their best stuff.
