Sirius and xm merger?

Postby phillyidol » Tue Mar 06, 2007 8:23 am

All it needs now is the fcc to sign off on it. It looks like a done deal. I love my sirius radio! I might also buy some stock before it goes through.

Deal appears to be done! The longest merger approval in US history. (Exxon/Mobil sailed right through, comparitively.) I'm sure there's a few dotted i's and crossed t's needed, but still...

I'm not sure of the details yet. Stern said today that one guy on the panel voted against it and another made tons of ridiculous add ons. We shall see.

Hope it's finally done. And I hope they keep Fred. I've been listening to Sirius for a couple years now but had never heard Fred on XM until recently. Fred absolutely kicks ass over First Wave on Sirius.

We have Sirius at work and I have to say that First Wave is starting to bore me.Never heard Fred but what I've been hearing about it on this board sounds like a welcomed change.

First wave is absolutely TERRIBLE. not even a remotely interesting playlist. It's too bad, they should have a NWO channel with some really obscure choices.

I just listen to Stern

Stern ,I can take or leave. I thought his show was great at first on Sirius but now it just the same old same old.
I do like the idea of a NWO channel. The New Wave Zone has Andy's 80s. Something like that would be a great addition to this site.

First Wave is sadly repetitive. However, I do like the DJ's. Fred feels very robotic with no personalities. Not that I'm a big fan of Richard Blade or anything, but the Minister, Larry the Duck, etc. are all good.

Do love me some Darkwave on First Wave, and the Safety Dance on Sat. nights isn't terrible, nor is Fred Schneider's Party Out of Bounds. At least there it's not Lips Like Sugar every 90 minutes.

With the Sirius/XM merger now a done deal , I don't see Stern getting the same great 5 year , $500 million contract in 2010. Without a bidding war between Sirius and XM , Stern will most likely take a significant pay cut.
Poor guy. How the hell will he survive with anything less than $100 million a year ? [}:)]

I think you are right. He did not speak of his new contract. Like him or hate him, this whole thing is because of him. He left for sirius at his hight and built it up. I do not listen to him like I used to but I give him credit for changing the industry. I HATE regular radio. I have a very short trip to work and I used to hear nothing but commercials the whole ride. Now I have music all the way. Yeah for me!

To be honest I am very happy it went through. It was like a huge fight against the system and we won. Regular radio and their dirty connections tried to kill the deal and deny us a better thing.
