Water on Mars !

They found it. This is maybe one of the biggest discoveries in history. There is ice at the poles on mars. They melted it and tested it. This means future colonies!

Actually, I think you're right. With Celine Dion probably being gene spliced with a horse on Plum Island, we'd all be better of on Mars.

How many Millions of dollars were wasted to find water on a planet we couldn't even go to!So theres water.....Lets spend 20 more billion to go back & collect a sample....As Charlie Brown Said.."I GOT A ROCK"
all the NASA money should go to a health care system!

Right, because there'll be no waste there at all.

Let's not do anything except out of necessity...no sports, no art, no music, no snorting coke off hookers' asses, no preemptive invasions based on false premises with no exit strategy...that's un-American you fucking Canadian Commie!!!

From wikipedia's page on the NASA budget:

NASA's current FY 2008 budget of $17.318 billion represents about 0.6% of the $2.9 trillion United States federal budget.

For comparison, the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars have cost U.S. taxpayers approximately $604 billion over the past seven years vs. the entire fifty year history of NASA expenditures.

According to figures and data from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the White House, U.S. Census Bureau, the Coalition for Space Exploration, and other space advocacy groups such as the National Space Society and U.S. Space Foundation, when divided by the number of American citizens who pay their taxes on April 15, the amount of NASA's budget works out to approximately $57.10 USD per year per taxpayer -- $1.09 a week, or 15 cents a day in current 2007 spending.

Here's a very cool graphical comparative analysis of all federal budget spending:

Sure there is. There is always a reason to get carried away.
Why waste money on the steam engine? The light bulb? Any invention? Progress. From the space program alone we got most of the things in our homes and lives today.

Well terraforming the planet someday may be a problem since the soil, at least in the north polar regions, has been found to contain some kind of salt compound that's toxic to plant life.
