Favorite Opening Lines?

Postby Frau_Blucher » Mon Aug 04, 2008 10:35 am

GenX's post of the Whiskey video with the Patti Smith track reminded me of this thread:

Favorite Opening Lines of songs?

Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine.
Patti Smith - Gloria

Ive been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand,
Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man?
Joy Division - Disorder

Maybe I've forgotten the name and the address
Of everyone I've ever known
It's nothing I regret
New Order - Regret

And some NNNW ones...

Turgid calls the winter charge
True adventures of awaking hearts
Nights are overwhelmed by gloom
We will see foxes in the moon.
BSP - True Adventures

Louise only got from me innocent poetry
Although she played to not listen
But still I can hear myself speak as if no one else
Ever could offer the same.
History of Lovers - Iron and Wine with Calexico

Get the rope, tie me to the bedpost
Because I can't find within myself the happy host
If I find my piece of mind, torture me
If I seem too serene, torture me
Metric - Torture Me

I am thinking it's a sign
that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images
and when we kiss they're perfectly align.
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights (sappy...so sue me)

I'd like to drop my trousers to the world I am a man of means, of slender means

Nowhere Fast, The Smiths

[:o)]

Somebody I never met
But in a way I know
Didn't think that you could get
So much from a picture show
Man dies first reel
People ask what's the deal
This ain't how it's supposed to be
Don't like no aborigine.

He's making all these promises you know he cannot keep
He made me pick him up, now he won't pay for gasoline
He's drinking all my beers, he's wearing all my clothes
And if he winks at me again I think I'll take him home

Voice of the Beehive - Barbarian in the Back of my Car

And since I am coming down from my Yaz high:

High & dried, tire rubber starts burning
Fill her up now before the table starts turning
Souped up, jacked up, cracked up, stacked up
Louie's got the gear
And Charlie's got his back up

Yaz - State Farm

<p align="justify">Been on an "Uncertain Smile" kick lately. God, it's like being a teenager in love again listening to this junk[}:)]

Peelin' the skin back from my eyes,
I felt surprised
That the time on the clock was the time
I usually retire
To the place where I clear my head of you.
But just for today,
I think I'll lie here and dream of you.

It was the lyrics that made me get into Death In June. Initially, I wasn't into that music at all.

"With your hair of flaming roses
Your kiss Medusa's touch
Turn me to a pillar of salt
To die now would be perfection"

"As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin for light in the darkness of insanity.

I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?"

(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding?- Elvis Costello

"t's not important for you to know my name -
Nor I to know yours
If we communicate for two minutes only
It will be enough
For knowing that someone in this world
Feels as desperate as me -
And what you give is what you get."

When your on the road
And your car won't pull that load
And your wheels aren't really feeling fine
Well I know of this joint
Where they'll check your plugs and points
I know these guys they're three good friends of mine...
