Thanks Randy. Looking forward to your posts. A question I have for you regarding a few of the bands you posted.....Blind Dates, MX, and The Words....Are they MA bands, RI bands, or a mix of both?

Regarding Bobert's request for the NADS......not sure if this is the same NADS you're hunting for (although in the picture on the website they look old enough to have been rocking at the Living Room or JR's Fast Lane back in the 80's).....But I came across this site with 4 of their songs available for download.

I believe MX and The Blind Dates were both RI bands but Im not 100 percent certain--Blind Dates may have actually been out of Boston. The Words--no clue.

Gopher, MX were from Providence. Their frontman, Sean Feeley, owns the Ruff Stone Tavern in North Providence. His younger brother, Brian, was in the band, as well. Guitarist? Bassist? I'll have to go dig out my record and check, but one of those. They only had one album. It has a cool watercolor painting of the four guys on the front, with "MX" spelled out in the clouds in the sky. Well, I thought it was a pretty cool cover at the time. Pretty good album, too.

Of course, like Rubber Rodeo, they were constantly mistaken for a Boston band, because they played there a lot.

Blind Dates were also from Providence, but I didn't pay much attention to them...

Brian was Bass, Sean and Tim Skalski guitar and Bill Healy percussion for MX.

Somebody & Randy...

Thanks for the info regarding the bands. Call it odd, but I like to file the local music by the cities from which they hail from. Randy...thanks for the recent uploads. Rash of Stabbings.....that's a name I haven't heard in some time now. I heard them on HJY a few times way back, and it seemed they were always mentioned back in the hey day when they were playing at some club in Providence. I can almost recall the HJY commercial.....Tonight at JR's Fast Lane, Rhode Island's premiere rock and roll band Strut takes the stage...along with special guests Shout, Rash of Stabbings, and Touch. I wonder whatever happened to those other 3 bands. Their names were mentioned almost nightly on HJY. Anyways....thanks again for the info.

The drummer in The Words was Bob Giusti, who was also in Rash of Stabbings and now drums with Mark Cutler, ex of The Schemers. He was part of the best rhythm section in Providence, circa '82, along with bassist John Rufo, who had played in The Young Adults, the band that did "It's A Complex World" -- which, except maybe for Hi-Beams' "Hyperactive," had to be the most-loved and best-selling R.I. 45 of the new wave era.

The frontman of The Words was Steve Dubois, who sold ads at the defunct NewPaper in Providence and also became a speechwriter for Buddy Cianci; Steve died in 2001. The Words were a very good band, but I don't think they ever released anything beyond their cut on the WBRU Rock Hunt EP.

Those of you who were Schemers fans: They released a compilation CD a few years ago and it's very good, a mix of original recordings from the '80s and re-recordings. You can buy a copy here:

Rob--thanks for the info--never realized that Giusti was part of the Words.

As for the Debutantes-no--I dont have anything by them--actually forgot about them before you brought them up.

Still looking for the original release of the Young Adults "Complex World"--all I have is the live version from their reunion they had years after their breakup.

As for the Newpaper--Remember the classic comic "Steven"?
