Well, I had concert duties awhile ago for a handful of 14 year olds including my son. The headliner was Paramore. I was as eager for this as having hot pokers stuck in one ear, thru the brain, and out the other ear. Jack's Mannequin opened for them, and I had to laugh as this was a band that Coop dragged me to see during the 07 SXSW. Really not bad - not to my taste at all but at least they had some talent, no matter how misused.

My highlight though was the first opener, Phantom Planet. They came on and I was bewildered. "What is this?" I thought to myself. "Why am I kinda liking this shit?" Then finally, "OMG, this is basically power pop." Not bad, not bad at all. Too bad I had two more hours of aural abuse ahead of me. And my son of course was mortified that any fraction of our tastes might happen to even slightly overlap. It's all good though - there's worse things in the world than watching teenagers enjoy music.
