Hey Brit, I hate to ask you this, but can you upload these files to a site from where I can download them? I can only listen. To save the file, I need to pay Apple $30 for QT Pro. I wouldn't mind doing that except that every frickin' time Apple updates Qt ya hafta pay AGAIN.

Sorry and thanks.

If I re-upload 'em to a differrnt site, you'll stil get the same QT interface. Rt click the link(some are botched) and Save.

Not true Brit. Ask Motnow what site he uses because I can download the files from there. If I try right-clicking on the file as you suggest, I get a dialogue with the only two menu options for saving -- 'save as source' and 'save as quicktime movie' -- grayed out. Trust me on this ;-) I need to own QT Pro to download the file the way you have it uploaded.

Look, never mind. Don't trouble yourself. You sound annoyed with the process as it is so forget it.

I don't get it...I personally thought it was fun to upload and download this stuff! So big deal if you have to take a "Stupid test" before you download a file. Just "X" it out.

I'm not at all annoyed by it. I'm in Firefox 3.0 right now, and was able to rt-click & save the mp3 file just fine. I don't have QuickTime pro installed. I have a feeling your file assocations with the .mp3 file format for your browser(whether its IE or FireFox). If you are using Internet Explorer, try FireFox.

I also suggest toning down the file assocations with QuickTime. It's overreaching its boundaries if it is preventing you from direct saving of files.

Thanks Brit. I'll give that a try. I'm using Apple's Safari, so I'll try other browsers and see what happens. Good suggestion.

Well, it appears to be a Mac OS X problem. I do not have Windows installed anywhere at home, but I did try Mac OS 9's version of IE 5. And that started to work. But twice IE froze up during the download. It's obviously an OS problem, and so it looks like I will not be able to download your files the way you have them uploaded. Oh well, thanks anyway.

BTW, I'm not sure how to "tone down" the QT file associations. I went to the System Prefs for QT, but found nothing relevant to reset. Also checked out the Safari and FF prefs.

I guess it's just not...

...meant to be...

I went to the macworld.com forums and found a sweet little workaround. Downloading some of your 'LIR goodness as I type.

Good to hear. This was starting to look like a backwards "I'm a Mac..I'm a PC" commercials.

Well being something of a computer geek, I'm kind of a multi-platform guy. I like Macs for home use, but prefer Windows machines for doing my professional work (not that Macs aren't capable). I also like Unix, but have had little incentive to use it.

motnow,
On your song lists, number 7 on tape 11 is the Hoodoo Gurus, "Like Wow-Wipe out!"

The number 10 song on tape 10 by Yaz is "Statefarm".

On Tape 9, the first song is "This is Mine" by Heaven 17. Number 5 is Brian Ferry "Stone Woman".
