After hearing DD's 'Hungry Like The Wolf' (album version, not radio edit) on my mp3 player last night, I had to add it to this thread[8D]

Hodt damn, that friggin track is jam packed with infectious hooks!

Especially, since EVERY band member had their own signature hook to add to this, arguably my DD fave tune.

From Andy's ripping lead off guitar riffs into Roger Taylors driving percussive riffs followed by Nick Rhodes scintillating staccato synth riffs backed by John Taylor's twunking bass riffs which lays down the whole groove for Simon LeBon's signature vocal intro which is all about that cheesy but ooh so hooky lead in line: [i] Dark in the city, night is a wire, Steam in the subway, earth is a fire...[/i][:p]

Blue Monday. It's a good song, but has many cheesy synth hooks that may seemed cool at the time. Synth programming 101. It's like they found every bad new synth programming and put it in one song.

Would there be a post in there somewhere with something like:

Symphonies with the greatest number of hooks
or
Who had more hooks in their music; Mozart or Beethoven?
or
Mozart B-sides I just couldn't get into.

agreed. subjective topic.

Most people hear some kind of "hook" in a song.
As a songwriter, it very often starts with just a hook.
New Order wrote that way. It would start with a rythm pattern or a synth hook, and the rest would just be built on a jam session that was created from it. Lyrics were often an afterthought in a lot of 80's new wave.
