Video Name That Tune Game: The Last 50 Years

Alright, so we've handed out a couple of Golds for individual apparatus...apparatuses...apparati...whatever. Now comes the all-around competition. Proof of age is not required with this crowd, and steroids and other drugs may be consumed at will. It's only important that you answer the bell, step up to the plate, and not pull any punches. Some of this will be a slam dunk; others might have you on the ropes. Just give your 110% to...

[b]The Video Name That Tune Game: The Last 50 Years[/b]. We did this before awhile ago in audio-only format, but I figure it's worth another go. In the embedded YouTube video, you will find 50 song clips largely from the amplified rock and roll milieu, one for each year from 1959 in the past millennium to 2008 in the current one. I propose this contest to determine the [b][i]Champion NWO Name That Tune 50 Years Of Music Champion[/i][/b].

Clips are arranged in chronological order from oldest to newest with the year of the song being a significant hint obviously (the flamboyant dude in a leotard could be another hint). The year may be a mix of release dates, charting dates, album dates or singles dates but should be accurate. The acts are fairly mainstream for the most part in order to facilitate such a contest and not make it a bedeviling chore...no, the last 8 years aren't [i]all[/i] BSP songs.

The Rules:

1) Watch the embedded YouTube video entitled "NWO VNTT 50"
2) Mark your answers in the format [i]Year - Artist - Song[/i]. Mark down all years without skipping lines to facilitate scoring

Yeah, I'd bet it's massively colored by my own tastes as much as I'd like to think it's some sort of representative slice. I'm thinking this one's going to be pretty easy, but you never know. I will say that there definitely isn't a single 2000s artist that hasn't been mentioned in the Next Wave forum.

[b]Final Update[/b] before tonight's close at 10pm EST. Thanks to all who've submitted. Each one seems to be bumping up the average. Right now it's at 122 - a veritable powder puff of a game. Hope to see a couple more of the usual suspects.

...and I'm afraid that this may be the most controversial Name That Tune in the history of these games. Yes, there were a couple of Chinese 14 year-olds that tried to sneak into the game, but no worries there, I chased them off our lawn...you lousy kids! There were also a few positive steroid tests, and I almost reached for the disqualification button...then realized there's nothing in the rules against that. It was even reported that a couple of contestants participated in the nude...but a) there's no NTT dress code and b) how the hell to verify that?? But those weren't the real issues.

What there was was an extremely close race for the gold medal. Cubby and Abacab66 were neck and neck and headed for a perfect finish. Yes, Abacab did have a few spelling niggles, which I let slide at my great largess...but it just wasn't feeling quite the same as Cubby's flawless performance. I knew the Koreans were certainly gonna scream bloody murder, remembering the whole Paul Hamm fiasco from Athens. But the rules were the rules, and I was going to have to give it to him.

But then at the very last second, fate intervened in the form of the East German judge. She pointed out that Abacab had "Majors and Generals" written down for "General and Majors". "Heil Cubby" she screams. Whoa sister! Now, I know Abacab knows this song. But the crazy broad...erm...the honorable East German judge wasn't budging from pushing for the full 2 point deduction. No way, I thought, too harsh. Still, my hand was forced...a 1 point deduction it was, and thus the epic [i]dénouement[/i] to the epic struggle was at hand:

And here I thought I was being clever (granted, a likely frequent conceit). You see, it's a New Order video...but from [i]2001[/i]...with kids that aren't New Order...and with a drum kit that says The Killers. So if someone were to guess wrongly, I could chime in and tell the clever story of how The Killers go their name. Surely a brilliant choice???

Congrats to cubby although I will be filing an official protest. I had a definite handicap having an 18 month old toddler screaming in my ear the whole time. I should be given bonus points for that. Nothing like trying to figure out a video with a stinky diaper wafting thru the air.
