This thursday they have a show called 102 minutes that changed America. It is a film putting together private film made on 9/11 by people here in NY. It is the anniversary again and I recommend this show. Tape it and watch it. If you are not from NY it will give you an idea of what went on.

Thanks for the heads up, Philly!
I was home from work that day, planning on doing some errands around the house and maybe a little R&R. Obviously, none of that happened, as I watched the events unfold on TV. I was fortunate that I was not one of the ones who had to endure countless hardships and fear to make my way home. And they were lucky too. They were alive.
Of course, as a New Yorker, I knew a couple of people who did not survive the attack that day. Most New Yorkers did.
I think this is a must-see for everyone, regardless of where they were on that date.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

No problem guys. No matter how sad or depressing that day is, we must remember that it happened. New Yorkers have to watch it and everyone else really should. From what I read it will show clips from all these people that were there and picked up a video camera. It will show their different views and stuff. I did have a few friends die but the worst story came from my friend that lived. She was in the tower in a meeting, made it out with her group, was told to go back....and did. She made it out as it was falling. She said she was running over bodies. She had no shoes on and ran for the ferry. Someone just tossed her on a boat. She did not work for all these years and just went back this year. She said she would hear the noises and see the people walking around her house. She was really messed up but is better now.

One question. Was it ever said why they where told to go back inside ?

It is one of those things that can not be pinned to a specific person or department. In all the tons of confusion there were operators telling people to leave, and others telling them to stay put. At some point before they fell, the people from the buildings who were all hanging out outside the buildings were told go home or go back to work.

Who knows. I think it will just get into the events unfolding not the politics. It is just very sad this time of year. Everyone I know has lost at least one person. 9/11 is always a topic of conversation. "you know ......he lost a kid in 9/11. You know ....., he lost a brother in 9/11" My whole neighborhood is made up of cops and firemen. It was devastating to Brooklyn. We lost so many people at one time.

I don't know why people were told to go back inside. Maybe they thought everything was under control because New Yorks bravest and finest were there?
I may have told this story before but,
my husbands cousin was working at the towers for 6 weeks prior to 9/11. He is an electrician and had been working on the 100 and something floor. On the morning of 9/11 his boss moved him down to the 16th floor for some work. He told me he was so pissed off at his boss that morning for taking him off that job.
Needless to say, he was the only one of those guys who got out. He did tell me when he was going down the stairs, there were many people going back up to their offices and he was screaming at them to get out.
It is a very somber time for the country on 9/11 but it is really hits hard here in New York. Like Philly said, everyone knows someone who perished.

Sorry, I must disagree that I have to watch it. I remember it well enough, and I'm certainly not going to forget that it happened.

I lived in Carroll Gardens at the time, directly over the river and directly downwind from the towers. I'll never forget how sick I felt cleaning the significant layer of ash from the fires off of our car, windowsills, front steps, etc., knowing what it contained. Fortunately, we did not leave our apartment windows open that day. I remember all the "have you seen...?" signs in the neighborhood, posted by friends and family looking for people that didn't make it home that night.

I remember how I felt watching the second tower fall, a few minutes after my girlfriend, who worked fairly close, called to tell me she was headed down there because "they" were asking people to come help get people out of the rubble of the first tower. I didn't hear from her again until she showed up at my office an hour and a half later.

Sometimes it seems like it happened 20 years ago, sometimes like it was 6 months ago. Either way, I don't need to see videos of scared people running, mass confusion, and whatever else they managed to film. It probably is, however, worthwhile viewing for anyone that wasn't in New York, and I really hope they manage to keep politics out of it.

I was wondering Marie . Did anyone follow his lead down the stairs after his screams to get out ?

I think it is really important for people to watch. I understand some people don't want to or can't. But to me, the most important message is not us against the terrorists or USA #1! The most important thing is that it reminds us that these things can happen anywhere anytime and we need to remember this so that we can really live life. Hug your kids, kiss your s/o, be in a better mood, have fun, do stuff because you are lucky to be alive. Live life! Life is really cool so experience everything with an opened mind. You only live once and there is no second chance. Be a better person, help others, be the best person you can be. My friends will never get these chances again.

Aside from that life lesson, I agree that people outside of NY should watch so that they can see what we went through. I don't want to preach but this is a subject close to my heart.

Spit, I have to ask him that question. We don't talk about it. His whole story of that day is really incredible. It's a long one so I didn't write the whole thing here.

I have another friend who is a Port Authority cop and he got out of the towers also. I remember him telling me he has no memory of how he got the hell out of there. He felt like an angel picked him up and lifted him out.

Anyway, a sad day for our country today. God bless the families and friends of all who perished.

Exactly, tileboy. I DVR'ed it and just finishing watching it. Same thing. Very, very sad...and very,very angry.
