They haven't confirmed. I'm assuming that for the 2 years they promised the DOJ they wouldn't eliminate anything, they'll probably keep both stations. But they could just start combining them sooner, I guess.

that sucks! I've listened to both stations and Sirius' station seems to stay more with the 'hits' if you will whereas Fred goes deeper into their collection. i'll be an optimist and say they'll go ahead and keep both [:)]

Uh oh! Looks like we might see Fred or First Wave go away. My money (sadly) is that we'll see most of the stations leave from the XM side vs. Sirius.

Because the company needs to save hundreds of millions of dollars, according to CEO Mel Karmazin, it reportedly will soon merge overlapping music channels from the two companies.

Interesting article in many ways. I chuckle now at the naivete of people who were opposed to a merger. It's the same with this whole Fred/First Wave issue. Hell, I'd love them to play obscure 80's. The reality of it is that not as many people would listen. Simple business tells you that doesn't work.
The other issue I find even more interesting is The Howard Stern one.
Funny, he took the money for what he thought would be more listeners and now he's less relevant. That's funny.

I don't think he cares so much about not having more listeners...he gets to do his show, his way, and gets to say whatever he wants without being censored every 5 seconds like on terrestrial radio. It's a much better listening experience now...

If they won't play the obscure stuff, they will play the well-known stuff, a la what terrestrial radio plays already. Then what's the point of subscribing? Ah ha!
