Why You LOVE Where You Live

I don't know if I "love" where I live, I'd love it more if I was out of the city & living in a rural area. We don't really have any special food or spectacular arts. We do have a gigantic state fair & that's awesome. I like that I'm 10 or 15 minutes from any part of town. I love my circle of friends and feel fortunate that we all came together in this spot.

What I do love is that you can drive 15 minutes out of town and find beautiful, rolling green farm land, little forests or huge deep forests, beautiful waterfalls and dark lakes in the middle of the woods. I love the wildlife here and am always suprised by what wanders through - we had a black bear cruise through one of the neighborhoods in the spring. I love all that stuff, so I guess Syracuse isn't so bad.

It's not that I love where I live, but that I don't like living near a lot of people. So I live in a kind of modern-day Wuthering Heights - away from everyone else, away from the rabble and the rubbish.</p>

I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood in the Silicon Valley. A fifteen minute walk and I'm in a huge open space preserve. We have a nice little downtown area which is ridiculously dog friendly. Most of the communities in our area are, so we bring the dog nearly everywhere.

40 minutes in the car gets you to San Francisco, Santa Cruz or Half Moon Bay. We go on a lot of day trips. Saturdays I go running on one of my favorite trails, which runs parallel to a resevoir and has mile markers (!). The Mrs parents are a day's drive away in one direction and mine are the same, but in the opposite direction.

This is true. However I live in Birmingham. Bollocks.

It's decent place to live in with variety of shops, theatres, art galleries, nightclubs and all that jazz. The people are friendly enough and it's safe place to live in except that it's so boring.

Sometimes I spend so much time in the NY area I feel like I live here.

Today I had a fantastic day of business at Port Elizabeth, a great Spanish dinner in Newark and I'm finishing my evening in a little bar on Staten Island (seriously!). You may be thinking WTF, how much did you drink tonight? But seriously, I love the people here - they are no-nonsense, straight forward people with oodles of common sense and street smarts.

I'll round the experience out tomorrow with a visit to the banks in Manhattan, a swing past FAO Schwartz to get presents for my kids and then off to the Yankees game against Chicago (one of their last at Yankee Stadium).

There's lots to see and do and experience in NY, but what I love most is the people I meet here - the real people from Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island or even over in Jersey.
