I haven't listened to it fully, but so far, i like what I hear. The guy @ Zia here in Vegas, said it's the only Chameleons disc still available to order right now, as all the rest are OOP.

*UPDATE* Ok gang...I hold in my hands:

The "re-release/re-master" of the Chameleons "Strange Times" 2 disc. I have to be honest.....I cannot put it down, what a wonderful disc. Thank you all for the heads up on this band. It was a bit pricey($33 bucks), but well worth it I guess).

They are a great band, I agree. "Up the Down Escalator" was one of my favorite songs through The 80's.

What Does Anything Mean? Basically is an album I listen to from time to time.

A lot of people were slating Interpol as being a Joy Division rip-off.

But to me they sound nothing like JD. They sound like The Chameleons.

Strange Times is one of my favorites of theirs, and the place where I'd recommend anyone to start. "Swamp Thing" "Tears" and "In Answer" are some of the peak songs in their catalog.

Strange Times has been my all-time favorite album since it was first released well over 20 years ago. Glad to hear you got the 2 disc version with all 6 of the songs from the bonus LP included with the US pressing. Others of the era right behind it would be (in no particular order): U2's 'Boy', Echo & The Bunnymen's 'Ocean Rain', The Church's 'Heyday', Simple Minds' 'New Gold Dream', ABC's 'The Lexicon Of Love', The Clash's 'London Calling' (and about 2/3 of 'Sandinista!'), The Jam's 'Setting Sons', The English Beat's 'I Just Can't Stop It', Gang Of Four's 'Solid Gold', XTC's 'Black Sea', The Cure's 'Concert', New Order's '1981-1982 EP', Siouxsie & The Banshees' 'Hyaena', Joy Division's 'Unknown Pleasures', Buzzcocks' 'A Different Kind Of Tension', The Stone Roses debut, The Psychedelic Furs' 'Forever Now' and Killing Joke's 'Night Time'. All pretty much perfect in my book in both the songs individually and the cohesion & flow of the whole effort. IMHO, I think the Chameleons and Killing Joke were the two greatest UK bands of the '80s to never make it big. In the US, I always felt Abecedarians should have been much bigger. Then Nirvana's 'Nevermind' went #1 and everything changed, mostly but not entirely for the worse I think.

Best/most underrated band ever!

If anyone lives in the Atlanta area, Mark's
band right after the Chameleons split, The Sun and The Moon,
are playing on the 1st Friday on November. Yet another one
of his bands that's reformed.

If you can,check the 2 guitarists' project after
the first Chameleons split - The Reegs. Wonderful
music, and hopefully the few cd's they released will
be re-issued soon.

This is fairly amazing. I hope some of our southern folk check out this incredible opportunity. It looks like their one and only show in the states. Weird.

I've seen Mark Burgess & The Sons of God a couple of times, and the later reformed Chameleons a couple of times as well. Absolutely fantastic band to see live-- their sound carries over perfectly to a live setting.

I came late to the Chameleons party. But, since I picked up "Strange Times" (US reissue on Geffen) a couple of years ago, it has rarely strayed far from my "listen to" cd stack. I discover something new every time I listen to it.

Blir, Atlanta seems to be Mark Burgess central these days - i've had the pleasure of hanging out with him (as well as backing him up) once or twice. So, there will be folks there! Check out their forum site, Wishville if you have a chance.

Sally, i too saw both Sons and the Chams when they reformed. Awful split the 2nd time around too - on their own forum! Such a shame.

I just purchased The Peel Sessions disc, one of the few recordings of theirs that I've wanted for a long time. The version of 'Fan and the Bellows' from that disc is so good it's stunning.
