Fireflies are not endangered. They are much rarer in urban & suburban environments because they have a hard time with all our lights. They're still going strong out in the country. I actually saw a lot more this year in my yard.
Praying Mantis are also not endangered, although it's been years since I saw one. They are particularly vulnerable to pesticides though, so if you're using something to kill off bugs in your garden - you're getting them too, maybe moreso since pests might have worked up some resistance while the mantis can't deal with it.

For years I would see them in front of my house inhabiting this one bush. There was a nest of them. Now this is the third year in a row they haven't been around [:(]

Those are some nice insect pics there Marv. My favorite insect is the Dragonfly. Is it true they can eat hundreds of mosquitoes a day? I like to see two of them stuck in the air flying in unison.
