Fair play to the people who've heard of Juluka, I thought it was too obscure even for here.

Scatterlings of Africa charted here as well, spending four weeks in the chart reaching 44. The album, Scatterling, stayed in the chart for three weeks getting to number 50.

The only other band on Safari is English Evenings, now they should of gone onto better things. 'Tear It Down' is a stormer of a song and deserved to chart.

obviously, glam/punk era legend Wayne County/Jayne County was Safari's
pin up 'girl' before Toyah, and "Fuck Off" dominated the top of the indie
chart for almost a year, as did the "Blatantly Offensive" EP,the "Edddie & Sheena"
single,and the Electric Chairs albums all sold big numbers in terms of the then
powerful indie chart in the UK...

No thanks. I'd sooner listen to Minnie Ripperton over any of the aforementioned choices. Even if it does make my ears bleed.

Actually, Juluka had one platinum record in France and were very big on the European mainland. There was also the Torvill and Dean Bolero release which went top five, and Maclean and Maclean's Dolly Parton's Tits, through their Singing Dog subsidiary. So they were more than just a one-act label (though I wouldn't necessarily recommend anything mentioned above).

I first came across her through seeing her act in [i]Quadrophenia[/i] over 1,000 times that I've seen the flick... I loved her role, and thought she was a decent actor. Only songs I know my Toyah is [i]Don't Fall In Love (I Said)[/i] and [i]Thunder In The Mountains[/i].

As far as I can remember, Juluka means sweat in Zulu language, and Johnny Clegg went against the government of South Africa by being and performing as a mixed black/white band... Saw them open for King Sunny Adé years ago.

Another interesting side point with Juluka is that though they were fiercely vocal opponents of Apartheid, they were banned from touring the UK because of the boycott organised by the Musicians Union. I believe Safari spent many hours arguing the contradiction this involved.
