I voted at 6 this morning. There is usually no one at my polling place but today there was about 20 people there. I thought all the Seniors working the polling place were going to cry. They were complaining about the "turnout" the whole time I was on line.

As I stood on line I tried to figure out who was voting for whom. Then I gave dirty looks to anyone I think was voting for McCain.[;)]

One thing I'm puzzled about. Everyone is acting as if the election is already over. Does no one remember the lessions of 2000?



Normally I would make my symbolic vote toward the Libertarian candidate, but this year I voted for Obama. Why?


I felt I had a losing decision in either case. Obama's economic policies I believe will not help but hurt our economic condition. While I do not believe he is a Socialist as I've heard said several times (making me wonder if those who said it know the meaning of the term), clearly his policies involve more government intervention and taxation into the free market. On the other hand McCain has a past history of restricting civil liberties, including his continuation of the Patriot act. Additionally his vice-presidential running mate is a Fundamentalist nitwit.

Finally Bob Barr is a bit of a "johnny come lately" Libertarian--for example he sponsered a Constitutional amendment that would make flag burning illegal, not exactly what most people think of when they think personal freedom of expression.



So I chose Obama for the following reasons:

1-the ruinous and disasterous war in Iraq

2-The thought of Palin an arrhythmic heartbeat away from the Presidency, frankly scares me

3-I have an inherent faith in the capitalistic free market to survive almost any storm, including the one we are facing now or the one that Obama's policies may exacerbate. However once McCain takes away my civil liberties or imposes the dogma of Fundamentalists on the rest of the country, those rights aren't coming back

I am proud of my vote for Obama.

I took my daughters with me when I voted. For better or worse, this is a big moment in history and even though they are young, I want them to be a part of it in their own small way.

I am currently registered as a Republican, namely to support Ron Paul in the Primaries, but for the past 16 years I've been flat-out Independent or Libertarian. I agree that the Lib candidate Bob Barr comes off as a bit of a phony and only a few years ago espoused conservative views that I totally disagree with like banning flag-burning and supporting the laughable War on Drugs. I didn't even give Barr a passing consideration.

I too voted for Obama. I respect McCain and his service to this country but his time has passed and he has been a huge disappointment in recent years with his brown-nosing and pandering to the Bush administration and the religious right. He would have been 10x the president that Bush is had he won the nomination in 2000.

I will add that Obama by far and wide will help restore America's standing in the world and that was a big one for me, along with the fact that I think he is admirably level-headed and will manage domestic issues just fine. I also don't think he's the radical socialist that the right-wingnuts and Faux News mainliners think he is. I guess time will tell.

Regardless, we still have 70+ days of Bush douchebaggery to endure, and the country will still be entrenched in the same devisive, perpetual bitchfest between the left and right.[|)]

I didn't vote until 6:30 this evening. I stood behind about 20 people. By the time I actually voted, there were 25 people behind me. I was the #1071 voter in the small polling place I was expected to vote. The turnout seemed pretty strong.
All the faces were white. I couldn't be sure about who was voting for whom but I, like Marie, tried to analyze the faces of those who stood in line. I was only sure about voter #1071. He placed his vote for Obama.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.
