Fred is Gone

The XM Sirius merger finally has been revealed. I should have known First Wave would take over because of the DJ line up (I mean Swedish Igil, Freddy Snakeskin and Richard Blade). The problem I had with First Wave was way too much repitition of the "hits" and less on album tracks. I got to learn many new tunes and buy albums from 80s artists, thanks to Fred. I'll give it a try but I'll likely just listen to my Ipod, more often, which would authentically have the deeper playlist. If XM goes way too much like Sirius with more repetition of hits, I may just drop my subscription altogether. I already listen to my Ipod in the car, as is. Goodbye, Fred.

I just heard about this.....terrible news.

Fred on 44 is the only reason I ever got into Sat Radio in the first place. The Sirius "equivalent" plays too much "Best of the 80's" type cuts like "Love Shack" or "Rock the Casbah".

I loved how Fred played the deep album cuts from some of the darker bands like Siouxie, Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order, etc. Now, I fear those type of cuts will nary be heard. [V] I am very sad.

I called to cancel and they offered me three months' free subscription. I went ahead and took it, but First Wave would seriously have to adjust. On the XM boards they say it's like KROQ back in the day. That may be true as far as repetition, but it's more KROQ hits--taking maybe the top 50 of a Labor Day countdown. Those that make such claims should hear the one hour taped recordings of KROQ back then to see that claim is bogus.

Meanwhile, practically all my favorite stations of XM are gone. And then the single artist stations--Elvis, Grateful Dead, and Bruce Springsteen?! I feel that it's marketed to the boomers. I guess I should go with my generation and the Millenials, as well, and go online. ANd maybe find some type of device that will play Internet stations in my car. Sigh.

[/quote]If you have a web browser enabled cellphone and a svc plan with unrestricted data minutes available, that just may be your ticket. My father in law has his Treo hooked up to his car's sound system to play music and talk radio web streams[8D].
