about '83 westcoast new wave; sample from TV show

Hello there,
I've recently heard some awesome New Wave songs in a TV drama.

It's the Japanese TV drama "Tokyo Love Story" from '91, but I think the songs they've played are somewhat early 80s American new wave.

The first three tracks I'm curious about are starting with the fashion show at 02:12, 02:49 and 03:21 and the last one at 04:59.

The second and third sound like Fred Schneider from The B52s and Tahnee Cain, but I think I'm wrong.

I've searched high and low the Internet and asked different people, but no results.

I appreciate your help.

My guess it's a replicated new wave sound. It's possible the songs on the show were used for that purpose alone.

That would be very sad. I'm sure it would have gonna be a hit

But from my experience with Japanese TV so far they rather would use originals. That is because if they had created the songs all-new they would have wanted to make as much money as they can get with them (CD sells). Most likely it's from an American or somewhat America-originated band which was popular in Japan only.

Thank you, I'll look after it next time I'm in Japan, as a last hope. All the tracks didn't appear on the OST, though.

Wow, now I wanna know what these songs are too. It sounds to me like the first and 2nd one (2:12 and 2:49) are the same song, only because the beat is the same, even though the vocalists sound different.

It's not Tane Cain, I have everything she ever did, but the songs are a very similar style. The third song is definitly a female singer.

I can pretty much guess that this is NOT Japanese artists, their English is way to good for that, I've heard Japanese artists sing in English and you can hear the accent.

I know that a lot of artists released Japanese only CD's this could be the case here. I would think the episode review would list the performers at the end like movies do, but maybe it doesn't.

Yeah, that's a good guess. Some foreign artist who released in Japan only. I haven't noticed anything in the review but i'll check again. I've already sent a very polite mail to Fuji Television which produced the drama, but no answer so far...maybe i'll pay them a visit next time i'm over there.

Unfortunately the Japanese are very "conservative" when it comes to Internet publication about music and other media.

I think the first and 2nd songs are different, because the chords and the bpm are a bit different.

The voice on the third one reminds me of Dead or Alive. But the beat does not.

I think Odaiba is the right place. But I will Inform myself where to annoy them when the time has come.

DoA is a good tip, as they were popular in Japan, too. I agree the style does not fit, but I will search the discography for the track...
