Coldplay...Plagiarizers!

Maybe it's an inherent danger of building one's career on the most generic, cloying, and wretchedly middle-aged melodies a human could possibly put together...

I'd say Joe was in line for an apology and some cash.

So you think these guys were listening to 2004 era Satriani as inspiration for their new album? Seriously?

No. Two horseshit musicians named Martin and Satriani came up with identical insipid and banal cord progressions, but Satriani came up with it first. [}:)]

Coldplay responds to Satriani copyright lawsuit
by Jonathan Cohen - Dec. 9, 2008
Billboard.com
NEW YORK - Coldplay has responded to Joe Satriani's copyright infringement lawsuit over their song "Viva la Vida," which he claims contains "substantial, original portions" of his 2004 track "If I Could Fly."

"If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him," the band says in a statement.

"Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write the song 'Viva la Vida.' We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavors."

"I did everything I could to avoid a court case with this situation," Satriani told Music Radar. "But Coldplay didn't want to talk about it. They just wanted this whole thing to go away. Maybe they figured this little guitar player guy will leave them alone after a while, I don't know."

Those are clearly pretty similar, but I have trouble visualizing Coldplay sitting around jamming to Satriani.
