Yeah, i also tried to conserve space for only songs on my tapes, who would have thought that later on i would have liked to hear some of the djs.I did my best to capture the songs by the beginning. i had the pause and record and play all pressed at once. When i heard a song i liked i released the pause button as quick as possible, because i too hated to miss the beginnings of songs...screamer and screech party part b will follow..

Of course we would rather hear an uncut tape but back in the 80's who knew that our cassettes would be litle treasures right now? When I taped WLIR I didn't want to hear anything but the music. Now I would rather hear the dj chatter and commericals!
With that said, I appriciate everyone's contributions here. I will be adding to this thread with some of my WLIR stuff soon.

Reading all the entries here I find it amazing that one radio station
had such an impact on our generation, and still does even though WLIR is off the air. And thanks to people like motnow and others, younger people that weren't around in the early 80's can check it out
for themselves.

OK, time to throw on ABP and dance!!!

Thanks, That particular tape was like a starter tape for me back
in the day.I have more tapes that were exclusively Wlir. stay tuned.
Ah Leah by Donnie Iris is a great song, that is what is great about all
of these tapes that I and others are uploading, you sometimes hear a
song that you've never heard before. I love the song Melody by David
Johansen also.yeah WAPP was short lived station but was different than
many others But WLIR ruled the airwaves for me..

I remember WAPP, circa 1982-83. Would flip the dial between LIR and them while roasting on the sand at Jones Beach.

To those complaining about the DJ's being cut off and the lack of commercials, occasionally you'll get an entire DJ break on here and a full commercial so I've been dropping these "complete moments" into pro-tools and re-editing them to recreate the full WLIR experience. Generally it takes about 4 or 5 of these tapes to create one "streamlined" 80 minute CD but trust me the results are worth it.
I can understand why the jock chatter and commercials were not recorded. I did the same thing back in the day. I only cared about the music and took everything else for granted. Little did I know that all these years later, the stuff I didn't record would be the stuff that brings back more memories.
In any case, I'm thrilled these are up here!
