Frank Sinatra. Oh my God, can anybody be more fucking "celebrated" than this guy? It seems like any buffoon on the street becomes a musical expert as soon as this guy's name comes up. You want instant credibility in any music conversation? Just say no one is greater than this guy. You don't even have to be capable of any kind of rational thought. He's alright I guess, but Jesus Christ, the guy's so cliche and not really a remarkable vocalist. And spare me all the "he's such a gentleman" bulllshit because anybody can put on a tux and pull chairs out for ladies. From what I've read about him and the rest of the Rat Pack, I'd say they were a cut-throat band of back-stabbers, each vying for the next venue to play in Vegas - loyalty to eachother be damned.

So I'm guessing Frank's greatest hits better not be under your tree this Christmas.[:)]If I had to listen to a rat packer it would be Dean Martin and I cast my vote for Pink Floyd, never really ever got into them.

NO surprise here but my vote goes to the N Sync of the 60's ... The Beatles.

Motors your hatred of the Beatles is always a good read. You may need to rethink it though...

According to this loon, not only is the "Paul Is Dead" myth true but Paul is also the anti-christ and the secret head of the Manson family. Iamaphoney created 60 or so videos showing that the Beatles are part of an evil worldwide conspiracy to promote Satanism and destroy good clean wholseome 1950's era family values. Let's see NSYNC do THAT! [;)]

Last year I foolishly debated a few of this guy's legion of followers (my argument being "guys...chill out...it's just a rock band") and was called every name in the book so I gave up. [}:)]

I can't say The Beatles. They were incredibly and definitely inventive. How anyone can use The Beatles and N Sync in the same sentence shocks me. I was definitely a Beatles fan when I was a kid. I haven't been able to listen to them in 30 years but I still have a healthy respect for what they did and for their body of work in such a short period of time (George Harrison was only 27 when they broke up!). I just can't call them over rated.
However, I can put The Grateful Dead, The Eagles and Bruce Springsteen at the top of the over rated list. Just my opinion, mind you, but those bands just came so easily to my mind.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Heh, in that case I thought Paul "McCartney" Manson made out pretty well in the '70s with Wings -- their satanic pinnacle clearly being "Live and Let Die"! Ooooh, and how about that side project with Youth -- The Fireman -- being such a blatant nod to the Dark Prince himself! [:D]

Personally, I think this guy's lunacy qualifies him as an Anti-Christ candidate.[}:)]

Oh Iamaphoney is something of a web cult leader alright. He has spawned entire forums filled with devout believers who post the most insane mumbo jumbo you could imagine. Apparantly Paul is also the illegitimate grandson of Alistair Crowley according to those freaks. You would think that with his evil lineage and the almighty power of Satan behind him he could create something more wicked than Band On The Run. [;)]

Oddly enough these "Beatles are Satanic" people give a free pass to Black Sabbath. I'm sure Ozzy is jealous.[:D]

I think the point was to promote shock. Probably the best alternative when one has strong feelings but lacks an actual basis for their opinion.

I believe there are some who truly aren't impressed with The Beatles, Sinatra, etc. I also think there are many more that think it sooo "alternative" and "underground" of them to say that they DON'T like what the mainstream adores. They do this just for the effect. It makes them feel edgy, cool and helps them leave a lasting impression at parties.

The Beatles and Stones basically took Rock and Roll from its teeny bop infancy and turned it from a fad into a viable art form. They opened the doors and influenced so many that followed, it is hard to gauge the enormous gravity of their true impact.

Sinatra, perhaps didn't have THE greatest singing voice but it was the attitude and style that made him unique. Something I could echo when it comes to MANY New Wave artists. Only difference is, THAT Fucker did it for over 6 decades! Makes U2 look like The Spice Girls.

Plus Frank was bipolar and drank a lot. You can't get much more Rock and Roll than that!

For me, overrated = Tori Amos who's voice grates on me like a wood rasp but seems to have a rabid following.

Then there's KISS who had like, three memorable songs yet stretched their career out over 30 plus years- all the while shamelessly merchandising the shit out of themselves.

I'm tempted to put The Beach Boys in here. Great band, some fantastic songs but my God do the critics piss all over themselves waxing about how life changing and earth shattering their music was. They're a fucking surf band.

Prince was ok but man did his shit get overplayed in the 80s. To this day I cannot listen to the repetitively lame "When Doves Cry" or "Erotic City" without getting hives.

I'm going with the NO talent Britney Spears. Is she even an artist? At least all the others mentioned are artists.

You are absolutely right. I never should have mentioned N Sync. I should have said The Backstreet Boys. It's very unfair to Justin Timberlake to mention him in the same sentence as the Beatles given that he is a superior singer, actor, dancer and can get a much higher quality of woman than any of The Beatles (although props to Ringo for Barbara Bach).
