I don't think over rated is an accurate description of The Osmonds. Did anyone take them seriously enough to even rate them?

Also , for the record , I also think Sinatra's ok for what it is and Springsteen has a number of songs that I enjoy listening to.
What that means , nothing really. To each his own I guess .

Well said. To each his own. Identical tastes and opinions are unlikely, even on this board.

I would put The Rolling Stones in this category. Not that they weren't important because they were. If they disbanded around 1974, I wouldn't have considered them over rated. They seem to have ridden their reputation ever since.

Love or hate Sinatra but he did create something that everyone should give him props for and that's inventing the modern day album. Prior to Sinatra, albums were collections of previously released 78 rpm records held in what resembled a photo album hence the name. In other words, every album was just a "greatest hits" collection and only sold to those who hadn't already purchased those hits individually. Sinatra was the first artist to record new material specifically for an album. The industry thought he was crazy but it sold like hot cakes and quickly became the album as we know it, whether it be "London Calling" or Britney Spears' "Circus".[;)]

Ironically, Sinatra's idol and eventual rival Bing Crosby was the main financer of the Ampex company and convinced the recording industry to switch from cutting masters on acetate discs to the higher fidelity reel-to-reel tape. In a roundabout way, without Bing Crosby no one would've been able to make mix tapes.[:D]

Oh, I mean Fleet Foxes. Saw them play, I guess you'd call it a song, on Conan. It's like somebody took a bunch of old Crosby, Stills and Nash records, erased all the hooks (and any reason for existing), and called it a new band.

Dishonorable mention to Arcade Fire -- although they at least are pretty much yesterday's news.
