Returning DVD's at Best Buy

Postby DJ Lestat » Sun Dec 28, 2008 11:55 am

Anyone have any experience with returning sealed DVD's at Best Buy/. I got a few for Christmas(last year LOL) that I want to possibly return for store credit. I have no receipt for these.

I'm afraid it doesn't look good

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Good Luck!! I have a friend who tried to return a dvd there once. They took the dvd out and examined it and then asked him a bunch of stupid questions. Basically treated him like an idiot. I think after 15 minutes or so they reluctantly exchanged it. Though if it is sealed, you may have better luck.

I wish you luck. It does say that an original receipt is required for all refunds and exchanges.

<p align="justify">Oh, yeah, those best bastards will give you the third degree for everything. They have cheap dvds and cds sometimes, but you have to be real sure that's what you want because returning them takes the hassle from getting a bargain. I have a short fuse for morons, so it usually ends with a shouting match and me talking to the store manager[}:)]

Well, I've never had any problems returning anything there, but then I've never tried to return anything a) without a receipt and b) past 30 days.

Why don't you just hang onto them until they go out of print? Then you can do what everybody else does -- and stick them on Amazon or eBay for 5 times what they originally sold for.

<p align="justify">You could potentially bank on the NewOrder double-dvd set. The story dvd is worthless, but the collection one can fetch ye 30-40USD[}:)] Combine it all for 45USD!

Good luck with the returning.

If it is anything like having Best Buy's Geek Squad repair something, it should be quite a harrowing experience.

For the record, their "extended warranty" is useless unless you're into excuses, delays, incompetence, endless phone calls and getting different stories.

If you can at all avoid it, DO NOT buy any electronics or major appliances there. After going through the Geek Squad repair process, I'll never make another major purchase from Best Buy.

Not that I'm bitter...

Assholes!

PS Here's the whole story should you care to check it out:

You can find many more stories of equal or greater Best Buy incompetence if you do a Google search.

When I worked in "the biz," I'd sometimes end up with "cleans" - these are promos I received from friends at other labels that were sealed, stock copies without any promotional stickers on them or cuts in the barcodes. I'd save 'em until after Xmas, then return them for credit to stores like Best Buy, Target, etc. Store policies got more strict in recent years, but it really doesn't hurt them to take back sealed product if it is still in print, as they can easily return overstock to the manufacturer. When I managed a Sam Goody store, the policy was to always accept sealed items for store credit, because even if they weren't purchased there, you're still getting a customer to shop in your store, and helping them out may make them come back and shop some more.

I bought the Police "Certifiable" DVD/CD set from Bestbuy.com as it was on sale for $19.99 on Black Friday and I didn't want to bother dealing with the store craziness that day. When it arrived, the discs had come off the spindles and were all scratched up. I called and asked if I could exchange it at a local store, and they said no, because it was no longer on sale and they would simply refund my money at the store. So, I had to wait for them to ship a new one - the discs were fine this time, but because the box is flimsy, and because they just stuck it in a plastic bag envelope, the box on the new one was all beat up. I switched the discs and sent back the bad discs with the beat-up box...but I had to pay for shipping and have to wait for them to credit me for the shipping costs. They could have either 1)let me "exchange" (not "return") it at a store, or b)sent a pre-addressed return label with the replacement. I never shop at Best Buy much anymore...

OK I made it in there today and they took back the U2 Slane Castle Dvd and gave me a 25.00 store credit. The others they told me they no longer carry and wouldn't take back. So overall I am satisfied with that and will throw the others on Ebay.
Now onto my search for a Mac friendly Hard Drive Camcorder....
