"91X Baby!" - Wolfman Jack

Border blasting from Tejuana, Mexico so they could crank up the 'juice' (no not O.J.[}:)]) on the weekends and bleed into other stations from 90.7 to 91.5 (somewhere's in that range!), a clear shot to Long Beach across the water, always got to hear 91X along with KNAC, which had bad reception even in their hometown of Long Beach! [:p]

Good memories, good times! [:)]

Thanks for posting these. Love the '87 one with Mike Halloran. Got any from '88-'91 era?

Need to dig through my tapes because I've got a couple somewhere. When I was a kid, before my family went on vacation, I'd stick a tape in my boombox and just record 91X.

I think I've also got a tape somewhere of 91X playing tracks off Depeche Mode's 'Violator' for the first time, as well as KROQ's coverage of the infamous Wherehouse apperance.

Man, I'm at work right now so I can't listen to those right now, but I can't wait to get home.

I grew up in San Diego (live in Chicago now. Have for 12 years.) The early 80s were my high school period. 91X was a major part of that. Russ T. Nailz, Steve West.

Thanks for posting them. Off tomorrow, so today's like a Friday to me. Think I'll grab a beer for the train ride home and a few more for when I get there. I'll probably listen to all of those tonight!

That was awesome!

For a guy like me, born in Bay General, lived in San Diego until I was 29, now dealing with ice storms, driving in snow, living alone in a tiny studio while I go through a divorce, that was a better trip back in time than I could have gotten with a souped up Delorean

Beyond the music, hearing the old DJs, requests from El Cajon and Santee, the Mexican identification (I forgot how muuch I missed that woman's voice.)

Listening to it again. Hung over and smoking a clove. Just like when I was 15.

Last night I posted songs 23-12 from the 91X 1988 countdown. Tonight I pulled out the second tape from that night believing it was songs 11 to 1 to complete the countdown.
Unfortunately it was songs 42-24. I cannot find the tape containing those top 11 songs.
Anyway here is 42-24:

Listening to 91X was such a relief compared to the repetitive playlist on KROQ. Living in the OC I could get it clearly from Spring to Fall. They were the only place you could hear the Shoegazer bands, the Blue Nile and deep album tracks.

More vintage 91X from July 16, 1991. Hard to believe this was recorded 18 years ago.
