How could Florian quit?

In other news, Frtiz Hilpert suffered a heart attack in October forcing the band to cancel an Australian date.

I am skeptical of both of those pieces of news.

Florian did bow out of the tour this past year but the reasons were unspecified. I haven't heard any official word that he's left the group, though.

As for the remastered catalogue...that was already issued in 2004 as a promotional item. (It turns up on eBay sometimes.) The word is that they hated the remastering job and thus never issued the discs officially. I have copies of that set and I agree...it generally sounds awful. Way too much noise reduction.

It's my understanding that the site is run by someone quite close to Kraftwerk.
The site states that the catalog was remastered by kraftwerk itself, so...

well ... i would say "someone TOO CLOSE to kraftwerk" , as the guy in question called dirk matten a.k.a. "anna lüse" or "tante anna" or sometimes a.k.a. "heide witzka" etc. is a complete jerk & a total disgrace in general , so it's rather sad that such a sucker is in any way "a spokesman" for the band , also because he's started several so-called "edit wars" @ wikipedia ( usually not even under any of his infamous monikers , but jus' under an anonymous id addy ) & was banned from there & quite a lot of forums worldwide - like the german keys magazine forum ... only for example !

i really DON'T understand , how somebody like him , who's also a convicted criminal in germany , because of the fraudulent bankruptcy of his former company - the "synthesizer studio bonn" - is still trusted by so many fans & even other people & sites all over the net ... & especially by ralf hütter himself !? [V]

btw : that guy was also mainly responsible for the closure of the - until then - best & longest running german kw related fansite called "germankraft" , which always had the best & most extensive info about the band ... but that has also been their biggest fault after all , because as long time fans like me ( 30 years by then - 3 years ago ) sadly know by now , kw are actually forging their own history in a way they wanted it to be represented "officially" & in public , which also means that they've "edited out" ALL former members like wolfgang flür , karl bartos & earlier members too from the credits of their re-releases etc. !

to cut a long story short : after florian's retirement earlier this year already , kw no longer are a band anymore , but only a musical project run by ralf hütter a.k.a. "mr. kraftwerk" & a few "employees" for the studio work & live shows ! [:(]

btw : dirk matten by now even claimed that florian didn't take part in any way in the production of kw's latest studio-album "tdf soundtracks" , which is jus' utterly ridiculous ! [:0]

fyi : here u can see for yourself , who wrote & produced which songs on that album -> http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=169839

If I were Florian, I wouldn't want my name on that embarassment of a Kraftwerk album anyways [:)].

afaik , florian has already left kw before they've planned their live dates for this year !

of course this is in no way a "semi-official" statement , but only based on what i know from a much more reliable person close to florian !

make of it whatever u want now ...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/ja ... -kraftwerk

Kraftwerk's co-founder Florian Schneider has hung up his robo-boots after 40 years of service.

Schneider's departure means that Ralf Hütter is now the only remaining original Kraftwerk member. The band are expected to carry on, with a South American tour supporting Radiohead still scheduled to go ahead in March.

Schneider is credited with helping take electronic music into the mainstream, a fact David Bowie recognised when he recorded the largely instrumental song V2 Schneider, which featured on his Heroes album, after him.

Although Kraftwerk's last album featuring new material was 2003's Tour de France Soundtracks, their influence on pop remains as strong as ever, with a new generation of fans emerging such as synth-boffin Little Boots and electro-whizzkid Metronomy.

The band announced the news of Schneider's departure via their website. He is now expected to turn his attention to solo projects.

Crazy to think that these guys have been writing music for 40 years. Will the tour be re-billed as 'Kraftwerk featuring Ralf Hutter' now? ;P

I never had the chance to see these guys live, ah well. I'll always have Computer World in heavy rotation.

At least the guys will let the name Kraftwerk live on, unlike Hooky and Bernard fighting it out against each other to use the name New Order.

"the guys" ?
u certainly mean "mr. kraftwerk" a.k.a. ralf hütter & his 3 "employees" , right !? [}:)]

what will be interesting for the time to come is to see , if hütter will "edit out" schneider's face & name of all future re-releases of kw too then ...

well ... while bernard & stephen could go on under the neame "the rest of new order" , hooky may adopt the name "new world order" ! [:D]
