Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke

Postby TerryMc » Wed Jan 14, 2009 9:40 am

OK, this is not really a new wave discussion, but when Run-DMC is in the 2009 class of inductees, that's ridiculous. They're not rock, they're rap. If you want to honor them, start a Hip-Hop Hall of Fame to honor them and all the other poachers, I mean, samplers. If non-instrumental entities like Run-DMC are allowed in,then it is past time for the Hall to admit the Monkees, who at least tried to play instruments when given the chance.

On the flip side of this, there are plenty of bands still not in the R&R Hall of Fame that is ridiculous. I'll start with Kiss. Whether you think of them as an influential heavy metal band, or cartoon freaks come to life, in many ways, a band like Kiss is pretty much the embodiment of Rock and Roll, from image to lyrics, to stage show, etc. Like them or not musically, they should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and certainly ahead of Run-DMC.

I agree with you, it kind of begs a question like, 'Ok well if Run DMC can get it , why not KRAFTWERK?' etc.

I have often thought the same thing but I won't pick on one band (like Run DMC). The term "rock 'n' roll" when applied to the hall of fame is about as meaningless as it gets. Why not call it "The Music Hall of Fame Excluding Country and Classical"?

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Many should be considered that are not in the Music Hall of Fame regardless if you like them or not. Abba, Alice Cooper, B52's, Beastie Boys, Pat Benatar, The Cars, Def Leppard, Devo, ELO, Genesis, Hall & Oates, Heart, Joy Division, Judas Priest, Kiss, Kraftwerk, Rush, Stray Cats, Donna Summer, Tina Turner, Barry White, Wolfman Jack, and Yes. Some for their music, others for thier influence, and some for both.

Supposedly, it was the writer from the Arizona Republic News.

On another note, Man U is just two points behind the scousers with one game in hand.

....But back to TerryMC's original question ---if RUNDMC are supposed to be some groundbreaking artist, and do not fit into the RRHOF (narrowminded) view of 'rock' (meaning hip hop)and are allowed into the RRhalloffame ---then KRAFTWERK should be --- it's basic logic.

Im gunna start a fuckin hunger strike, man.

You had me up until Hall & Oates.

I'd definitely put them in my Guilty Pleasure Hall Of Fame, though.

I kind of like Run DMC... from a photographic stand point.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cooganphoto/3038324327/" title="Run DMC by Coogan Photo, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3183/3038324327_c195a8e112_m.jpg" width="240" height="172" alt="Run DMC" /></a>

...and The Cars definitely should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

This topic was debated ad nauseum when Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five were inducted two years ago.
