Oh man, I'd forgotten how weird and quirky this movie is, particularly the last 15 minutes. Great music, with that hilarious scene in the club with the lounge-y Circle Jerks(!), and the Untouchables on vespas. I really like Harry Dean Stanton; his character was perfect.

"Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood.

It is a joke, right? Clint's not really serious with this shit, is he? He's just got to be pulling a gigantic prank on everyone. This movie was absolutely horrible, save for a few (no doubt unintentionally) funny moments. How is this thing getting rave reviews when "Rocky Balboa" was more believable?

Death Wish 3 (1985) with Charles Bronson was on last night. So unintentionally funny, I couldn't stop watching it.

Supposed hard core murdering gang members dressed like Village People rejects, hackneyed dialogue and way too improbable situations- like the bad guys lining up across the fire escape scaffolding, making it easy for Bronson to pick them off.

And some how Charlie comes through cool as a cucumber.

'Let The Right One In'. Terrific, very creepy horror film set in Sweden in the early 80s. Not much music on the soundtrack, though there was at least one good tune in it that I hadn't heard before. I have no idea what the tune was, since it was in Swedish, but it was a good track.

I saw Benjamin Button. I can't completely sink into movies that hurtle to inevitable consequences, but I usually love slow, immersive epics. Kinda torn then. Hurtle it did through the middle and end yet seemed to dwell too long in the beginning. Very well made. Great makeup obviously and interestingly enough, the sound and sound design are subtly spectacular. My predictably favorite scene was the long scenic sequence set to The Platters' "My Prayer" - very Ridley Scott.

Saw "The Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke. A fantastic performance in a flawed movie.

Typical Rourke material- his character, Randy "The Ram", a loser in the beginning of the movie, by the end is transformed... NOT! He just continues to be a loser.

Marisa Tomei plays the stripper with a heart of gold and body of steel (the nude shots of her are worth the price of admission)!

Some great acting but uneven plot development. Because of this the end, which is supposed to be tragic, comes off as anticlimactic.

I wondered how much makeup Rourke had to have done for this. He looks so different than last time I saw him. Then I read that his short stint as heavyweight boxer a few years ago took it's toll on his face.

Makeup or no, he is mesmerizing on screen.

Juno - I resisted it for a long time, although I don't know why. I think because it seemed "cooler than thou." I was wrong, I really loved it.

I thought Jennifer Garner and Emily Page were excellent - and I loved Allison Janney as the Step Mother. Jason Bateman really can play a sleaze-bag well.

The music was pretty irritating though...

Rourke's been a favorite of mine. Can't explain why 'cause I know he's a fuck-up. Great flicks in the 80s, especially Angel Heart and Barfly. Barfly probably has a lot of thematic similarity to Wrestler. Haven't seen it but definitely going to.

Just realized his movies seem to have a lot of quips as well...

In Angel Heart after observing some voodoo chicken ritual:
Lisa Bonet: "So what, it's a free world."
Rourke: "It ain't for chickens."

In Barfly to the mailman after Faye Donaway bloodied the craop out of him:
Mailman: "Are you Chinaski?"
Rourke: "No, I'm Leon Spinks!"

I can watch that movie repeatedly. I used to aspire to be Bukowski....(standard college behavior, like being a liberal)
