CD question

maybe a stupid question now in the age of mp3 but:

I got this cd and when I played it on my player at home it kept skipping on one song

than I put it into my PC and it played fine, no skipping.

when I took a closer look at the back of the disc I noticed there was a tiny scratch, but it was visible from both sides of CD, so it is deep enough to cause it to skip

Is there anything out there that can fix that?

since it does not skip on my PC I guess I could rip it to mp3, but is there anything to fix the actual disc?

I think the best thing to do would be to burn a new copy on your computer since it plays fine there. That one will be clean and should play anywhere.

If the scratch is that deep, it will continue to oxidize and degrade as time goes by.

There are some scratch removers that work with varying results. I tried one that worked ok on light to moderate scratches. DiscRestore- don't even know if they still make it.

I agree, there are cd scratch removers out there with vary results....just burn it on another CD like Synth-Man said.
But if I were you I'd take it back to the store you bought it from for a replacement or refund, after you burn it of course [:D], but seriously if you paid for it, take it back!

If you can see through where the scratch is, the top of the disc, where the data layer is, is damaged, and nothing can be done.

I recommend trying Exact Audio Copy to rip it securely. You may opt to skip the track which is damaged, or use an old drive and let EAC try to get as much data as possible, which can take all day (literally!).

Obviously, you would want a lossless copy of the rip. Save either in WAV, FLAC, or some other lossless file format, and not just as a CD-DA. MP3 is for shit.
