Enough already with the mod baiting, CC. Seriously, I think you got the rise you wanted, so move along or take it offline.

Rotator, let's work that one into my next project: Death Metal Outpost![}:)]

Anyway, trying to get this thread back on topic...it just seems like the Tropicana carton looks like it came from a royalty-free stock photo house. Which is for the most part acceptable were it a generic store brand. The whole orange-with-a-straw-sticking-out-of-it was such a recognizable icon. Losing that seems like a step backward. All my humble opinion.....

In related news, I've never seen a hockey game in my life. There is a similarity between the NWO logo and this Whalers logo which I never knew about:

<a href="http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/marvymarv/?action=view¤t=85f84c5e.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/marvymarv/85f84c5e.jpg" border="0" alt="Whalers logo"></a>

Still, it's all in the typeface and seeing as those are pretty much open to anyone who wants to buy them, it's logical that these coincidences do happen all the time. By the way, this Whalers logo was retired in 1992.

Speaking of design coincidences, here's an informative read for those that care:

Well Marv you won't have to worry about copyright/design infingment, as the Harford Whalers (my most fave NHL team) moved decades ago and haned their name.[:p]

I really like these discussions about design. Growing up in Canada, I payed keen attention to Hockey logos, the best being the Detroit Red wings,

the worst being (most) of the new team logos in the past 20 years and the early 80's Canucks ---which was essentially their uniform, which was black with a giant red and yellow 'V':

marvymarv, you'll appreciate this: my husband (also a graphic designer) and I talked about this packaging fiasco last week... we stopped by the grocery store and as I was reached for the newly designed Tropicana carton, he blurts out, "I can't tell if it's orange juice or laundry detergent" [:D]

I always liked that Red Wings logo. Reminds me of the Red Wing boot logo.

Femme, just about every graphic designer I know is in WTF mode over the Tropicana redesign. It's just bizarre how they dropped all that brand heritage for that photo of a Crate & Barrel glass.

Tropicana's new designs are a ploy in that they hoped we didn't notice the 96 ounce container is now a 89 ouncer.[:p]

Yeah. the new design seems so joyless.

Rotator, Femme, you gotta see the complete delusion these people are working under with this "design strategy" I was able to acquire. This was for the Pepsi redesign but the same agency did the Tropicana one which is part of Pepsi. HOLY SHIT [xx(]

I noticed the new bland Pepsi design also, and was underwhelmed. Maybe these graphic designers are trying to simplify, but too much.

On the subject of drink logo simplification, I'm surprised no one's brought up how Gatorade bottles now just have a large letter "G".

I don't drink the stuff though..."G" is for gross.
