1989 versus 1969

1969 seems SO long ago. 1989 seems like yesterday. Does it strike anyone else as strange though that 69 is only twice as long ago as 89? That it's already been 20 years since the Berlin Wall came down? Doesn't the moon landing and the launch of the 747 just seem like a LOT longer ago than 40 years, especially compared to 20 years??

I often think about this type of thing ...to me it seemed like a lot more changed between 69 - 89...than 89-09......although I'm sure there is "somebody with a big nose who knows, who'll trip you up and laugh when you fall.." and come up with some sort of statistical information to prove that theory wrong.

Ditto on thinking about this a lot. I remember in the 80's thinking that the 60's were so long ago. Nowadays the 80's seem like only yesterday. I'd go so far as to say that 1997 up 'till today might as well be just one year as far as my memory goes (which is probably not a good thing).

I can tell you from working at a university and being surrounded by kids that they view the 80's in much the same way as I viewed the 60's long ago. To them it's ancient history and 1989 might as well just be 1969 as far as they're concerned (and we all rode dinosaurs to work, etc.). They were all born in the 90's and think of Nirvana as "oldies". lol
