Well, this didn't take long:

UPDATE: Rev. Al Sharpton has weighed in on the cartoon in a statement:

"The cartoon in today's New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."

"Being that the stimulus bill has been the first legislative victory of President Barack Obama (the first African American president) and has become synonymous with him it is not a reach to wonder are they inferring that a monkey wrote the last bill?"

Sorry Al - as usual, your argument is bullshit. Where were you the last 8 years when people were saying Bush looked like a chimp?

Huh...I never even made the connection until I read Sharpton's comments. Does that mean I hold African Americans in higher regard than Mr. Sharpton?

And since when did the stimulus package become a "victory" on any level?

Depending on who you talk to, this is either sheer cynicism or optimism to a fault. At any rate, politics as usual.

The "outrage" over this cartoon is utterly stupid. Sharpton is a conspiracy freak.[xx(]

There must be something to the sentiments that some feel about the cartoon. I mean, even the first two posts here are motors asking how this ever made it to print and marv going "holy fuck". I won't presume to know if they felt it was just sensational or if only they were surprised that it got past white apologist editors or something else - not really part of my point. My thought is that I can't imagine the cartoonist and editor didn't have some self-knowing sense that someone just might make some racist association and that they'd have full plausible denial and indignance at the ready - "ludicrous!". Message or intent aside, let's not be gullible or even stupid about the slyness of these guys looking to sell a paper and make a buck.

On the Sharpton front, the dumbfuck doesn't even know he indemnifies the Post even further by interjecting his ridiculous persona into the mix.

Sharpton is an attention whore. And a corrupt one, at that.

So, to recap: this statement reads like you're lending credence to Sharpton's asinine assertions based on the reactions of bleeding hearts like Motors and Marv? Have I got that right?

Blir's right.

My initial interpretation was that the cartoonist was using the old adage that if you put enough monkeys in a room with typewriters, they would eventually re-create the works of Shakespeare ...insinuating thet the Stimulus Bill is a magnificent piece of work comparable in size and depth.

Then I pondered it a while and thought , "Oh wait! he's saying Obama's a chimp! I get it!"

I can't believe I almost missed its brilliance.

I am sorry for the lady who was hurt. I just have to wonder about people who have wild animals for pets. If you have an animal that you'd see caged in a zoo, it's probably not your best bet for a pet. (The *behind bars* part gives me a big clue). And I know that these people think their pets are tame ... except they aren't. Ever.
