Way back then, my mum (not so much my dad, who would usually proclaim "you call that music? get off my lawn, you kids!") was often curious about my new wave music. She'd ask sometimes "what are you listening to?" or "Who is this group?". However, she usually didn't like it after hearing it. She's more into rock (Stones, Led Zeppelin). She thought the emphasis on fashion & makeup was hilarious, but she also admired the artistry and avant-garde expression for what it was.
So, to sum up: I'd play it for them, but it wasn't their taste. They usually rolled their eyes. Much like I imagine their own parents did at that age, when The Stones, The Beatles, or The Kinks came along.
