Who shaves?

I know it is pretty common for young women these days to trim or shave their nether regions. But today a post-run discussion of porn films over a beer with my running buddies lead to the revelation that more than half of the dudes shave their balls! There were various explanations, but the only one I could buy was for "heightened sensation". Otherwise it just seems like a metro-sexual thing to do.
