I always get involved in the same discussion with friends.
Post-Punk bands like Echo & The Bunnymen, The Chameleons UK, The Jesus & Mary Chain, New Order, etc are often categorized as New Wave all together with bands like Duran Duran, The Cars, Human League, A-ha, etc.
I understand there are differences like fashion, hair color, music. New Wave B52's style and fashion is completely different from Post-Punk bands like the Echo & The Bunnymen. Post-Punk was more darker.
New Wave was mainstream and later vanished or turned into Pop while Post-Punk was more underground and later emerged into Alternative.
Back in the 80s MTV played New Wave regularly ? Did they play Post-Punk music ?
1.- What are the main differences between New Wave and Post-Punk ?
2.- Why do people always confuse both ?
3.- Why do people always use the term "New Wave" as a catch-all term for both New Wave and Post-Punk ?
