Got the 2 disc set last nignt. Amazon 'cut the mustard' yet again, albeit a week later than advertised. Managed to listen to part of the 2nd disc, the Phil Oakey song made me laugh with ironic pleasure. Why wasn't it included on the first disc as it seems a bit out of place with the mixes? Would be a great single, maybe that's the reason. The remixes/ dub versions I heard were subtly in keeping with 'Love and Dancing' although not enough vocal trickery ala 'Love Action'. Look forward to hearing the rest of the CDs tonight. Great artwork shame I can rationalise £300 to get hold of the vinyl package, love the perspex box!
Has anyone noticed a Doctor Who style riff on one of the tracks?

Truer words could not be said. This is an extraordinary time to be a PSB fan. This album is amazing. It's perfect.

GJH: I think the Oakey track leads off the Etc. Disc because it was inspred by his Love and Dancing record.

Truer words could not be said. This is an extraordinary time to be a PSB fan. This album is amazing. It's perfect.

I have to reiterate, what a triumph this record is. All the glitter of disco, all the pomp of New Wave, all the attitude of electro with all the romance that is Pet Shop Boys. Their unique brand of artistry weaves all of love's promise with all of love's tragedy. I can easily see these tracks translating very, very well in the live arena. You know the stage shows are going to be magnificent. I know I'm jumping the gun here but...[:I]

Forgive my effusiveness but this record is just too easy to love.

I was about to post about the symbolism in the package design when I came across this article which does it better:

I love the negative tick mark over the Boys' photos. One detail the article doesn't highlight is how on the double disk set, there are seven boxes on the one disc and eleven on the other, again representing the tracks contained within each.

Second time round listening to the 2nd disc some of the 'Love and Dancing' references really come through: drum patterns, cut up vocals, etc. Wish it was a bit longer. Really love the Phil Oakey track, hope they release it as a single including a dub mix.
Am I quoting the obvious but could the title be a pun on The Human League's earlier name?

Totally. I gotta tell ya, that track just makes me so [i]happy.[/i] It's so whimsical, so full of nostalgia. You can almost see the fun they had recording this number. I hope there's a video in store for us.

RS has always been biased against the kind of music I like. They're into icons: Janis, Jimmi, Stones, Dead, Dylan. And they like punk and Southern rock. I wouldn't take their opinion seriously on any matter concerning synth-pop.

I took a flyer on the new PSB (I haven't bought new music from them since [i]Very[/i]) and I absolutely love it--well written, well played, the mixes are great, and the Oakey song is a highlight. Between this and the new Depeche, it's a great year for new old new wave so far...
