THE NEW ORDER CHALLENGE

Postby MARV » Thu Mar 12, 2009 1:17 am

I challenge anyone to find a better live clip of New Order on YouTube.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/J7rkHi6scBw&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/J7rkHi6scBw&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Ah, gotta love that vintage New Order. What I would do to back in time to one of these shows [^]

Always struck me that this "Sunrise" at the Hacienda would have been shit-kickingly fun:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RVP0qpJNH-0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RVP0qpJNH-0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

In the 90s, "Regret" from Reading..."Let's rock the fucking house!":
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WBOg2z5pQkI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WBOg2z5pQkI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

In the 2000s, going retro in their last US appearance at Hammerstein:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MBKnQJre7Io&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MBKnQJre7Io&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

1. This was great:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-ShhAzCXtg

2. And this is great due to its weirdness... how is all so out of key, the infamous shorts that Bernard is wearing. Why those shorts?? Why? And it's funny how Bernard complains of the sound. He's really pissed.

I came very close to posting a vid from this very same session Mechi. It is freakin' hilarious. I think I was going to post Temptation but then decided that it was just too fucking awful, and Barney's hip gyrations made it look like he was humping some invisible dog.

What about this? New Order performing Ceremony at the Ukranian National Home in the East Village on Nov. 19, 1981 on their first tour after Ian Curtis killed himself on May 16, 1980. I wonder what was going through Barney's mind as he approached the mic to sing this Ian Curtis masterpiece.....

Man, "Regret" from Reading festival sounds awesome.

In Aug 1987 I saw what could have been a great double bill -- New Order paired with Echo & The Bunnymen at Jones Beach Theatre. Too bad it was a windy night in an outdoor venue. New Order phoned it in, and Ian got high on stage and meandered for what seemed like an eternity. On the other hand, I did get to meet Peter Hook and Les Pattinson during sound-check before the show.

I saw that bill along with Jene Loves Jezebel at the Pier that same year. Great tour.

•edit• Here's a review of that show. It was the first time I saw them.

I love the Reading performance of Regret and I'm also partial to the Finsbury Park rendition of Temptation, which I think I've watched 100 times. Temptation is only cool if Barney says "last Fuckin' time". Ceremony comes in a close second.
