What a shame that Al should go out having so thoroughly repudiated his <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7hcu5aYOWA" target="blank">longstanding</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEWL3Y6Kpzo" target="blank">irrefutable</a> NW heritage.

Ab initio, Ministry was the embodiment of what synthy NW was at that time in the early '80's.

Their 'With Sympathy' and 'Twitch' material captured with breadth and depth, the dark, brooding side of the genre with their own signature sound going so far as to fooling legions of stateside wavers (myself included) with Al's faux Brit infused vocals.

Too bad he eschewed what would later become his most memorable work. (IMHO)[|)]

Okay, I have a soft spot for Al. [:)]

I think I'm one of the few who kinda sorta dug the early 90s industrial-rock era of Ministry, and I especially enjoyed the side stuff he did: 1000 Homo DJs, Pailhead, Revolting Cocks, Acid Horse, etc.

(btw, Acid Horse's infectiously-dancey-bordering-on-techno "No Name, No Slogan" might be my favorite thing Al has ever done.)

I even saw (and liked!) Pigface in concert (not Al's project, but one founded by other Ministry guy, William Rieflin).

So do I. I've hated his music since 1987, but his politics were always right on...but I don't want to start a political crapstorm with any conservatives that might be around here...

Anyway, I'll always be grateful for his early work, even if he says he hates it.

The Acid Horse 12" and the first Pailhead 12" (No Bunny b/w I Will Refuse) are great records!

Anyways, i got a great book for Christmas written by
Chris Connelly - "Concrete, Bulletproof, Invisible and Fried - My Life as a Revolting Cock". If you're into music bios, it's a great one. Paints a painfully honest picture of mid-80's Al Jourgrnsen trying to fit in with whatever was happening. I love everything up until The Mind......., and Chris Connelly is funny as hell too.
I feel like i'm a wannabee crtitic on Amazon now! Jeez!
Oh, funny bit on Al and hair extensions too....

Sounds like a fun read, but not for $43, the going price on Amazon...

Time to check out that book! Sounds like a very interesting read.

In my opinion, it was the right time. I always caught up on Ministry and the occasionally interesting side projects, especially Lard, until Filth Pig, and then for some reason the majority of my interest just left. That said, I'm happy that their last few albums did well.

The Chris Connelly book is a behind-the-scenes goldmine for Wax Trax/80's Ministry-era fans. I bought the book right after its release, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

I gave up on them after With Sympathy.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.
