What scene scared you or freaked you out?

None have ever really scared me, but as far as disturbing goes, it's hard to top Marilyn Manson's scene in "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things".

Also kind of disturbing is the scene between Willem Dafoe and Laura Dern in Wild At Heart. MUCH grosser than any eels could ever be.

the only scene that has ever freaked me out was amityville horror.
when the priest gets locked in the room and the flys start swarming, but its the voice that freaks me out. GET OOOUT!

I have to agree with most of these choices: the disjointed moment in The Shining, dream sequence in American Werewolf, etc.

There was one split-second moment in Event Horizon that is seriously effed up: the unscrambled tape of the missing crew. I couldn't find that clip on youtube (probably a good thing), but the scene involved self-mutilation, cannibalism and self-induced vomiting, all in frenzied cut that your brain couldn't quite process fast enough.

Also, let's not talk about the bed-bound near-corpse victim in se7en... *shivers*

heh.. yeah its often those quick almost subliminal things that get you! Like the newer edit of the Exorcist where the devil face appears in a few more spots than the original, and the bits of video from The Ring in which odd dream-like sickening things occur.

Speaking of Se7en, many shocking moments in that indeed! One of the most effectvie IMO is actually the end scene, with "what's in the booooooxxxx??!!!" Well acted, horrible shit.

Hannible wearing someone elses Face in Silence of the Lambs was also quite erm.. nice? More disturbing than shocking were the 'tuck' scene and the 'I can smell your ..' scene with flinging erm.. patient-juice [xx(]

has anyone seen the Human Centipede... I just saw a preview of it and looks like one sick movie and what a premise! I thought transformation in the Fly was disturbing, and some Saw and Hostel scenes too... but this might just beat those [:p]

I love horror movies, but very few have ever actually scared me. The Shining was one of them, oddly enough The Ring was another. Nightmare on Elm Street I found dissapointing however.

I totally know what scene in Event Horizon that design_femme is talking about. I watched that scene over and over to see if I could make out what was going on, and I couldn't. But that part with the vomiting was especially weird because it actually looked like they were vomiting up an entire person, or like, whole body parts.

Horror movies don't scare me at all. I'm always conscious that I'm watching a movie so I enjoy them as a visceral thrill but find them very difficult to get wrapped up in because they're so implausible. Love 'em though for what they are.

I will say that David Lynch's stuff can creep me out. He's probably the best modern horror director out there although he's not considered one. Something about the blurring between dream and reality in Lynch's films makes them play out almost like some subconscious message to be decoded rather than just some film. I've sometimes watched a Lynch film and thought "Waitaminit, did that just happen or did I imagine that? Maybe I should turn this thing off". [:D]

[Bitter Almonds]

<p align="justify">When I was a kid, I remember seeing the [i]Kyuuketsuki Miyu[/i]/"Vampire Miyu" miniseries and the second episode, "A Banquet Of Marionettes," weirded me out a bit. These weren't little dolls or puppets, but lifesized dolls. In one scene, the vampire slashes one of the dolls by accident and... THE DOLL SHREAKED AND BEGAN TO BLEED! Just watched a movie tonight called "The Silent House" aka "La Casa Muda". This movie is just coming out in the US now (I watched it on the IFC Midnight OnDemand channel).

This one has a serious piss-in-your-pants scare in it. It's a great scene. Not sure that the entire movie holds up (you have to watch through the entire credits and make sure you see the scenes after the credits are over)...
