What jackass authorized the NYC flyover

This would be akin to entering Columbine High dressed in black carrying fake guns, about the same amount of thought was put into this.

WASHINGTON — The White House says it doesn't have any information about the Boeing 747's flying photo op over lower Manhattan that sent Manhattan into a panic. The plane is a version of the 747 that's called Air Force One when the president is aboard.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Monday that he doesn't have time to keep track of the planes used as Air Force One. He says he didn't have any information about why the presidential aircraft and its Air Force fighter jet escort were flying near the Statue of Liberty.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the Air Force say the flight was a government photo opportunity and training mission involving a presidential plane.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted the move near the site of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, which crashed two jets into the World Trade Center. He says the photo-op showed "poor judgment" and was insensitive.

Agreed. There aren't words to describe how stupid this was.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Head of the White House Military Office Louis Caldera has taken the blame for this. He apologized but should be tendering his resignation due to the utter stupidity of this idea.

Unreal. Maybe the next photo op will be of someone slowly driving a Ryder rental truck through the streets of Oklahoma City.

This is the second day in a row I had to say, "WTF"?

Can you imagine being in the city and seeing this? And not to tell Bloomberg? This is beyond stupid.

Mistakes on a Plane
No one thinks to warn Mayor Bloomberg that Air Force One will be flying low near ground zero.

Jon Stewart said it best on the Daily Show (at 2:32 into the video):
"By the way it's funny you know, ah, ah, this just occurred to me, another way you could have gotten that picture, ah Photoshop. Remember, we did it, remember? Oh but that's right, Photoshop can look so fake... when the look of terror on so many people's faces today... You can't fake that."
