The Rarest New Wave Single....Ever?

Alright, sorry, mea culpa. Reading eight6's post, I didn't suspect that it was Steve's copy.

So all band members sold all their copies? I'll stop counting then... [;)]

I just received an e-mail from obscure through eBay's e-mail system. I don't know what makes this guy tick, but he really needs to get some help.

The essential details are:

[i]He's happy the band charged me so much money for the record.[/i] The fact of the matter is I offered what I'm paying.

[i]This is yet another record I would never own if it weren't for him.[/i] I guess fiftypercent had nothing to do with it.

[i]He feels sorry for my wife.[/i] I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard that.

[i]He's through with posting on forums.[/i] I give it a day or two, but I'm hopeful he can be true to his word.

I think he's just pissed that I was better able to help Seeing Red to be "Seeing Green".

He should feel sorry for my wife too. I don't know why but I get that a lot.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

It's from Buck Owens...and it's new wave because I heard a synthesizer note...yeah...yeah.
And there's only one copy...I got it from...Buck himself...

Alright, time for a surprising post.

Possibly some of you might have wondered what my thing with obscure is.

Well, I didn’t buy any Dolly Parton minimal synth off him. [;)]

But quite some time ago he haunted the Minimal Wave board as the “MINIMALSYNTHPOLICE”.

I didn’t know who obscure was then, he hadn’t posted as obscure, and I didn’t know his ebay auctions either, as otherwise all those capital letters and exclamation marks would have given him away right away.

But so The MINIMALSYNTHPOLICE remained a mystery and a loose end until the Seeing Red story.

Although its concept was of course less than brave, it also took some creativity to set up such an entity, and as the MINIMALSYNTHPOLICE he conveyed a kind of aura of strength and used a sexual element.

Furthermore, he set up an entity called “SeeingRed” which was the 7” describing its impressions on its flight to Germany. I found that post quite amusing.

Lastly, I even saw one post that was the result of some deeper reflection under the “obscure” label on Minimal Wave. It was his perspective on collecting. Need I add that he didn’t label himself as a fun collector though? [:)]

Well, what exactly am I aiming at? Now, hard to believe but true, there is a bit more to obscure than what he shows us here.

And I really hope that the smarter part of him – or one of his smarter personalities, I am still not clear in my analysis here – will finally realize that in order to improve his reputation both as a person and a seller, the five-year-old who thinks ownership of a record extends beyond its sale can fight but a losing battle for him.

So stay off forums indeed or surprise us, obscure. [;)]

Hi all,

The time has come to put some facts on the table about the band "Seeing Red".

Firstly we want to give a huge thanks to "fiftypercent" for posting the information about the band in the first place as this is what has re-generated the interest in the single. One of Fiftypercent's cousin's in the band has contacted him recently to express our collective gratitude about his efforts in publicising the band and the single. All the band members are stunned and very excited that the single has caused so much of a stir, a quarter of a century, after it was first released.

Some band history:- In 1982 "The Red Square Crowd" was formed in Guernsey and I was the drummer and "Steve" was the bass player. The band split and reformed with a changed line up sometime after 1982 and became "Afrika Korp". Neither "Steve" nor I were members of this band and this band further evolved into "Seeing Red", of which I became their Manager "Glegg". One copy of the single has been sold with our permission by "Obscure" and he handled the sale professionally and for the benefit of all the band. If any other copy of the record has been sold, by anyone other than Obscure, then it is a private sale and no money has been passed to the band.

We would respectfully ask that all the ripped copies of the two songs be removed from all web sites including torrents as we are working on remastering the single and placing it on iTunes. This will allow anyone with a genuine interest in the single to obtain a legitimate copy in due course. Once the single is available on iTunes a further post will be made on this forum with the relevant details. All proceeds will go to the band and will be used to fund an alternative remixed version.

If "Steve" has infact sold a copy, he has every right to do this as it must be his personal copy, however he was never a member of "Seeing Red" and to the best of my knowledge he has shown no intention, so far, of giving any of the sale proceeds to the band.

I hope this clarifies the situation and hopefully the forum can return to one that is focused on music, which is how "Seeing Red" become visible again after 25 years.

Hi monty3...I've deleted the speed corrected copy of Steve's rip. I'm the person that has been in discussion w/Steve regarding the sale of his copy of the single.

Just to confirm I have also removed the rapidshare files and links on my blog. As I mentioned to Steve Luxton I will be getting everyone I know to buy the iTunes single, whether they want to or not!!

It was only "heavily sought after" because of the attention it brought and once it's available on iTunes I don't see a lot of people purchasing the single, just like with any "rare" record for a digital download.
